Who would ever think that you could see a spectacle like that at a polling place in America? And where are the cops? There are armed, intimidating thugs right in front of a polling place and they’re acting with impunity.
Can you imagine what the reaction would be if there were some pro-McCain red necks out in front of some polling place brandishing Louisville Sluggers?

    I think it’s time for you guys to crawl back under your rocks, and let America regain the image we were so proud of before you hate-mongers appeared.
    Investigations should be conducted to determine exactly who you are. You sound like agents of some foreign power out to undermine America. If that’s who you are, you’d better watch your butts. You’re messing with a real democracy, and we will not tolerate threats to our constitution or our freedoms.

    The very fact that they are here, bloviating with every post is proof that Rob, whom I would guess is a Conservative and / or Libertarian, does not ban them.

    I fully agree Zig as long as we bear in mind that “them” in the above quote refers to both left- and right-leaning bloggers. Very often, in the blogosphere, we go to outrageous even contemptible lengths to try to push a position or to debate intellectually or rhetorically in a more or less genial blogo context, often totally unrelated to the real world. A perfect example is my stupid Hitler post above. That’s the beauty of freedom of speech. However, I think it would be unfair, untrue and un-American when taking sides to claim that the “other side” is bad or unworthy of being considered American (as is often spouted by the likes of rightwing Olbermann and leftwing Hannity), unless we’re doing it in the right spirit. I know McCain is a good man. Just as I know Obama is a good man.

    Against that background, as long as we realize and admit that “Left” in the following quote should read “Both the Left and the Right,” we will remain true to our country’s principles.

    The Left [Both the Left and the Right] have a very skewed worldview and they project their own foibles onto others and accuse others of the very sins they themselves are guilty of.

    I remember in the service how we used to “slip” each other with comments like “Your mother wears second-hand combat boots” or “Your sister works the streets with a mattress on her back.” Decades later, over a beer with an old vet pal, he asked me whether my sister still works with that mattress.
    I replied “Yup. Does you mom still wear those boots?”

    Go along to get along as long as necessary to get to the other side of this, but develop the hand signals and know who your freinds are. They will be coming for us all, and taking our incomes, our guns, our right to assemble, this type of media, and talk radio too if they can.

    The only thing we have working for us right now is the filibuster in the Senate, but once guys like Oswaldo turn the Supreme Court, look out for that as well. They will find a way to change the rules of the greatest country ever wrought, and make it so that the conservatives will never get back in power.

    A couple of civic-minded Americans volunteer to help ensure that order is maintained at polling places, and you cry foul. Why? Is it because they were Black and you supposed pro-Obama? I suppose you are not Black. Would you have raised such a stink if they were white? You’ll note that the police allowed the unarmed one to stay. Are you against that too?
    Look at how many African, White, Latino, Asiatic and other “liberal” or “conservative” Americans gave their lives just recently in Iraq for our country. Many might have been what you refer to as “Black Panthers.” Are they dangerous?
    You guys are a disgrace to our country and what it stands for.

    If Conservatives were everything Leftards painted them to be, there would be no Leftards. The stereotypical, frustrated, religion and gun-clinging redneck would simply off the Leftist victims with shotgun blasts or perhaps a double-tap to center mass and a coup de grace to the head.

    The reality is far different.

    Talk about kooks. You’d need a friggen helmet to attend a McCain rally. “Kill the bastards,” “Terrorists.” “Bomb Iran.”

    Why? They were doing their share in contributing to the election process. What were you doing? Were you out there helping older folks get to the polls, providing transportation, food and coffee to those waiting on long lines on Nov 4? Those two “Black Panthers” as you call them are part of a broader body working together to concretize the voting rights of people in lower-income communities. You guys like to laugh at the expression “community organization” or “community organizers.” The McCain campaign was joyously scoffing “Ha Ha, Obama’s experience consisted of community organization, Ha Ha.” Well that’s exactly what those efforts and people are called, and they are proud of it, just like Obama was, despite the rightwing sneering.
    You should also have a closer look at ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) and how hard it was working to ensure that people got to the polls, despite the collateral disorders caused by some of their young canvassers with regard to phoney registrations that had absolutely no effect on actual voting. Election boards were prepared to detect any fraudulent or irregular ballots, and virtually none were reported. All the anti-ACORN hype spewed by Fox News and CNN’s Lou Dobbs was debunked entirely (Laura Ingraham yapping so much and contradicted by a constitutional lawyer versed in voter registration problems).
    ACORN has 400,000 members and should serve as a model and not a threat for the Republican Party, now that there is less need for it to try to demonize ACORN’s activities and to invalidate its votes. Hopefully, in the new administration and Congress, both parties will try to worked together and not against each other in the service of all Americans.
