More On Inappropriate Searches

Here's another story about a woman who was perhaps searched a bit to thoroughly.

NEW YORK - Rhonda Gaynier, a New York real-estate lawyer, was flying home from Tampa, Fla., and passing through airport security when she was asked to step aside for additional screening. What happened next shocked her: Using an open hand, a security agent touched her on her shoulders, under her arms, around her waist, across her bra strap, and between her breasts, Gaynier said -- all in front of other passengers.

"I was almost in tears," she said. "I've never been so humiliated in my life. It's one of the worst experiences I've ever had to endure."

We have got to find a happy medium between thoroughness and personal privacy with these searches, no doubt, but it seems as though some of these people who are complaining are getting a bit carried away. The only part of the above search I see as objectionable is the hand between the breasts. Touching her shoulders, armpits, waist and bra strap across her back seems fine to me, certainly not worthy of being called the "worst" experience of someone's life even with the between the breasts pat thrown in.

What has happened is that this story has gained attention, and rightfully so, but now the media is putting the spotlight on any woman who felt embarrassed after an airport search regardless of how mild the search.

Something else I'd like to mention: Where are the men in this story? Why is it just women who are embarrassed by this? I had a friend fly recently and was told by him that he was "frisked" both coming and going. He said the screener who did it (a different one each time) was especially thorough in the groin region. The screener never actually cupped my friend's genitalia but did put the flat of his hand up into the place where my friend's leg joins his torso, certainly not a comfortable place for anyone to be searched, especially a man.

I wonder if any other men out there have had a similar experience and why, if its happening a lot, its not getting the attention the female searches are?
