More Liberal Support For The Troops

Fox News – When military recruiters march into any Seattle high school, they could find themselves in a war of words. Under new district guidelines, schools must allow anti-military groups to “counter-recruit” right next to them
“There might be good reasons to die for things, but there’s no good reason to kill for anything,” said Amy Hagopian, the mother of a senior at Garfield High School and the co-chairwoman of the PTSA, which passed a resolution seeking to ban the military from all Seattle schools.
Before the school board could act on the request, she berated an Army recruiter who showed up at Garfield High, told the soldier he was not welcome and waved pictures of Iraq war casualties in his face.
That incident followed a confrontation at a Seattle community college, where war protesters chased a recruiter off campus.
“It’s something we have to deal with out here as recruiters because there’s a lot of teachers and people in Seattle that just don’t like the military being in the schools,” said Sgt. James Ramsey, an Army recruiter in the area.

First things first:
“There might be good reasons to die for things, but there’s no good reason to kill for anything.”
That has got to be one of the stupidest, most naive statements I have ever heard in my life. There are people in this world who would use terror, pain and death to seize power and inflict their ideology on the rest of us. These people are not afraid of blood and will not shy away from killing anyone who gets in their way. Adolf Hitler was one of these people, as was Saddam Hussein. Those two monsters were taken down because we fought back, not because a bunch of peaceniks martyred themselves “for a good cause.”
This woman doesn’t deserve the protection her political advocacy and free speech gets thanks to the armed men and women in our military, but she’ll get it anyway. Because this is a free society, and we tolerate opposing view points. Even the mind-numbingly stupid, gob-smackingly vile ones.
Second, how is it that these same liberals who oppose military recruiters also, almost without exception, claim to support our troops. How can you support troops yet oppose military recruitment? You can disagree with American foreign policy, but opposing military recruitment is the same as opposing our military. If you oppose our military you also oppose American freedom. Because that freedom will only exist as long as the men and women in our military are willing to fight tooth-and-nail to keep it.

“There might be good reasons to die for things, but there’s no good reason to kill for anything.”

Ok, I’m a little confused about this statement. If there is no good reason to kill then what would be the appropriate response be for events such as Pearl Harbor, WWI, WWII? It’s an honest question because every time I see protesters I understand that they protest something. What I don’t see are viable options of how else to deal with the situation.

(…) opposing military recruitment is the same as opposing our military.

I take it you support reinstating the draft, right?

Rob wants to restrict the number of members in our military as well (by disallowing the draft).

Hey Dave, give it a rest. What the hell don’t you understand about an all volunteer military? Disallowing a draft doesn’t restrict membership in an all volunteer armed forces. If the numbers are down, we need more recruiting, which this idiotic mother seems to think isn’t necessary for the good of our country. Reinstating a draft has nothing to do with this. This is just a feeble attempt by yourself to redirect the discussion.

How is it the able bodied who fervently support the troops avoid the recruitment office?

Because this is a free country Woof. It’s sort of the same reasoning why the military will protect both supporters and non-supporters of it from enemies here and abroad. Even those who actively campaign against the military here in the U.S., sleep comfortably under the blanket of protection it provides.

  • Dave

Those two thoughts don’t necessarily follow Dave

I’m not so sure. The mother in this story wants to restrict the number of members of our military. Rob wants to restrict the number of members in our military as well (by disallowing the draft). Why does only the mother “oppose our military”? What’s the substantial difference between the two? Both limit the size of the military and the success of recruiting efforts.

I would dare say it sounds like she is running scared that her dear baby (the senior in HS) will join the military.

I would also think that she has already emasculated him (if its a he) to begin with. The military would never want him, I’m sure.

The kid will be living under a tree in Berkeley in the next few years beating a drum.

Those two thoughts don’t necessarily follow Dave and you know that already. You’re just arguing on semantics because you like to do that sort of thing.

    Ryan G said, Dick Cheney?

No Ryan. You’re way off base.

  • Dave

I just don’t think we need the draft now.

    ….which is all I said.

  • Mike

    Bullshit Dave,

    How do you claim this:

I just don’t think we need the draft now.

    ….which is all I said.

    After saying this:

Rob wants to restrict the number of members in our military as well (by disallowing the draft).

Instead of trying to confuse someone else’s point, you have confused your own.

I’ll buy into that line of thinking, Woofie, when start serving as a human shield over in Iraq.

Because you can’t be against the war until you’re in the field standing against it.

Rob wants to restrict the number of members in our military as well (by disallowing the draft).

Where did I say that I want to disallow the draft? I think the draft has a time and a place. WWII, for instance, was one of those times.

I just don’t think we need the draft now. But thanks for putting words in my mouth Dave.
