More Americans Have Jobs, But Media Reports Lost Jobs

The media may be telling you that Americans are losing jobs and being kicked out into the streets, but that’s not exactly the truth:

Did you know that 574,000 and 1.1 million more Americans had jobs in March than in February and January, respectively?

[...]

Now the fact remains, as you can also see, that job growth during the past two months is nowhere near as great as it was during the same two months in 2006 (1.91 million) or 2007 (1.58 million). This goes a long way towards explaining why total employment, when adjusted for seasonality, fell 80,000 during March, and by 232,000 during the first quarter.

There’s no denying that the employment situation has been deteriorating for several months, and I’m not trying to minimize that. What I am saying is that the “employees were thrown out on the streets during March” narrative cooked up by Old Media today, including the Associated Press’s Jeannine Aversa, is clearly false, either because Old Media reporters and their editors don’t understand a concept as basic as seasonality, or they don’t want to.

Read the whole thing.

Anything to sell newspapers.  Remember Jason Blair?  Incompetents plagiarizing stories, fabricating others and in general trying to fool as many people as they can.  It would be nice to read the reverse story when, during this summer (a season) the employment numbers gain.

Only people on this blog think the economy is just humming right along with no problems.

Only you ignorant leftie liars are trying to sell that strawman.  This is simply another example of dishonest reporting.  Jobs are up, but not as much as last year.  If you go to the source article, there’s a table illustrating the facts.

Puzzlefeet:  Not true! Many of us at SAB are deeply concerned about the economic down-turn and have said so!

Thats what makes this such a great site. We post, argue, consider, debate, shout, curse, sometimes resolve and move on. [Sorta sounds like congress, doesn’t it?] smile

Shush, pparets.  It’s much easier for Puzzled to reconcile herself with her unblinkingly partisan views if she thinks everyone who disagrees with her is themselves an unblinking partisan.

It’s the cornerstone of her belief system.

There are plenty of problems! It’s just not as dire as the MSM would have us believe. Like the last time a Clinton ran for President!  Clinton & Co. ran the economy down as the “worst since the last depression”, when actually it had already turned around. Bill Clinton used the last year of the Bush administration for his record number of years of uninterrupted “growing economy”!

If you want to put “lipstick on a pig”, save it for the Reid/Pelosi Congress!

Here is west PA there is a shortage of people to fill employment slots. Perhaps it has to do with the Democrat morons in this state driving young people away. Naw! Couldn’t be cause of Democrat anal openings screwing up everything they touch. Has to be global blahblah. Or Cimpy McHitler. Yea!! Its his fault, the money hating bastard. Making everyone poor and driving jobs overseas. That Bastich!

We’ve got factories (the few that remain in the U.S.)closing and airlines restructuring and going into bankruptcy. How does that translate into job growth? According to some our unemployment is at or below 5%. This is seen in some circles as full(officially)employment. The trick is where this full employment is taking place. Most are in service industry minimum wage jobs. There are those who would say we should adjust and live within our means. That would be great if your bills got lower rather than rising constantly. Maybe those making minimum wages should sell their homes, cars and TV’s and build lean-tos and live with the barest of essentials. I guess being destitute and starving is better than living in a welfare state.

The airline problems have a lot to do with an industry so overly regulated that it can’t compensate for rising expenses (see: fuel).

As for factories, we’re an evolving economy.  Why do you want all these crappy factory jobs in America still?  We’ve outsourced those jobs to countries coming up behind us on the evolutionary ladder and have become the global center for design, innovation, etc.

That’s a good thing.  And our jobs picture isn’t bad.  For nearly Bush’s entire term we’ve had job growth.  A few months of stagnant growth and you’re freaking out.

We’re still around 5% unemployment.  There’s not a thing wrong with that.

Rob: Once again, all this negative stuff about the economy is just to get Dems elected in November.  Do you think they really care about the economy past that?
If they really wanted to help the economy, they wouldn’t be exaggerating the slowdown, which only tends to make things worse by making investors overly cautious.  They fail to mention the parts of the economy that are growing, like exports.  It’s all politics for them.

Amateur hour at the blogs this AM? The few that remain? Just because you and all your friends make French fires down at the local Mickey D’s, doesn’t mean manufacturing jobs don’t exist.

I work for a manufacturer. My company buys parts from other manufacturers. I go to trade shows where there are acres and acres of booths, many from American manufacturers. We sell our goods primarily to other American manufacturers. You simply do not know what you are talking about!

You would do well to speak about things that you know from experience, like how to set that little timer so that the fries don’t get overcooked!

Rob, do you really think that we are an evolving economy?
That’s sort of like Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, which most Conservatives say is bunk. But you are right. The only problem is that we do not have enough American workers trained in the new technologies. While we were urging our kids to go to college, Indians and Asians had the foresight to see the emerging needs for these skills and trained their young people to perform them. Hence, we now have American companies importing workers to fill these jobs.
Proof: Why don’t you tell the people in Ohio who just lost over 2,000 jobs since the beginning of the year due to outsourcing that our factories are not closing.
Robert108. Yes we are seeing a rise in exports. But this is mostly foods and parts to foreign countries to assemble products which they will export back to America.

America does not equal Ohio.

Ohio does not equal America.

You fail at equivalences.

This defines what is screwed up inside your brain. It is a global economy, and no matter how frightened you are of that, it is only going to expand and evolve.

Our factories? Hell, shitwad, MY company has a number of factories in Ohio and other states, and none of them are closing! In fact, we’re expanding a couple of them.

Businesses open and close for a variety of reasons. I suspect that the last buttonhook and buggy whip factories closed a long time ago. No body mourns their passing! You can’t buy a decent whalebone corset these days either. We are part of a global economy and a global marketplace. We sell our goods around the global and compete against firms foreign and domestic. If we do not remain innovative and competitive, do you want the government to bail us out? Subsidize inefficiency and incompetence?
What are we...Democrats?

Here’s some free advice:

No generalization is worth a damn. Including this one!

Stick to things you know personally to be true. Then you will not be apt to say so many foolish things!
