A little bit of history on the “success” of government run health care programs:

Medicare was started in 1965. The made that year for 1970 cost of the program was $3.1 BIL. In 1967 it was “revised” to $5 BIL. The actual cost came to $6.8 BIL.
They underestimated 5 year projection by 119%!
Sounds bad? Well it gets worse:
The program cost estimate made in 1967 for the year 1990 (23 years later) was $12 BIL. The actual cost ended up being… $110 BIL or 816% HIGHER!

Now keep in mind that CBO state multiple times that O-care will create more deficit by drastically increasing the current costs. But as you see historically, the costs tend to be understated a lot. So the $1 tril sticker price will actually end up about $2-3 tril by the end of decade.

I am sick and tired of you Dino!!!! Those Americans who reach age 65 have not choice but to enroll in Medicare. Even if the wish to continue with their own privately paid health insurance cannot do so. They become automatically enrolled in Medicare and their private policy becomes secondary coverage.

Look at how many big companies who had agreements to cover retirees and backed out of them. They’re a huge burden and why business loves having Medicare.

In general, companies with older work forces (think GM) suffer more than younger (think Google). The former want reform to level the playing field. Without reform, those not yet eligible for Medicare are most at risk and the ones who will be hit hardest as more companies drop coverage due to the 14 to 17% rate increases.

Heck as a small business owner let me sign out of SS. I could invest all that money in even a savings account and get a better deal than the government would give me when I retire. Medicare/aid I’ve paid into for 20 years, and still haven’t used it, the money I could have saved would pay a good portion of a healthcare plan.

It’s very easy to criticize the programs you all use, that your families have used for generations now, and predict that things would have turned out better without them. See, you can claim that but you have no way of knowing it.

We could, however, look at what things were like before those programs or look at other less developed countries that don’t have them and extrapolate. Not a pretty picture.
