Mitt Romney Endorsed By…Rand Paul?
9:21am
Those screams of anguish you hear are the Ron Paul faithful coming to terms with the news that the heir apparent to the Paul political movement has endorsed RINO di tutti RINOs Mitt Romney.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) endorsed Mitt Romney on Thursday night but said his father would remain his “first pick.”
“My first choice had always been my father. I campaigned for him when I was 11 years old. He’s still my first pick,” Paul told Fox News’s Sean Hannity. “But now that the nominating process is over, tonight I’m happy to announce that I’m going to be supporting Gov. Mitt Romney.”
I’m sure there will be a rationalization coming soon as to why the son of the One True ConservativeTM would endorse anyone but the One True ConservativeTM, but I think it’s because Rand Paul is just a smarter politician than his dad.
Romney is inevitable at this point. Opposing him means making Obama president for another term. Romney, whatever his faults, would be a significant improvement over Obama. Given the choices, you vote for the least bad, and hope for better choices in the future.
That sort of pragmatism is anathema to many in the Ron Paul movement, but Senator Paul is smart for embracing it.
