Miss USA Pageant Officials Trying To Strip Miss California Of Her Title
I’ve thought the whole controversy over Carrie Prejean is a little stupid. On one hand, why are the gay rights people flipping out over one woman stating respectfully her personal feelings about marriage? Seems to me that the thuggish behavior of gay activists and celebrities like Perez Hilton in response are doing a lot more harm to their cause than to Prejean and the cause of people who feel as she does on the issue.
On the other hand, social conservatives lifting this girl onto a pedestal over the matter seems a little absurd too.
The latest development is a movement by some to try to strip Miss California of her title for exercising her free speech and not disclosing that she’d once posed in her underwear.
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) – Officials of the Miss California USA pageant have strongly criticized titleholder Carrie Prejean (pray-ZHAN’) but say it’s not their decision whether she should be stripped of her crown.
Co-executive directors Keith Lewis and Shanna Moakler told a Beverly Hills press conference Monday that only Miss USA pageant owner Donald Trump can make that decision. …
The state pageant has been investigating whether she violated her contract by making public appearances with groups opposed to same-sex marriage. Prejean also failed to reveal that she once posed in her underwear.
All the other issues aside, am I the only one a little shocked at the hypocrisy of pageant officials who hold events where women walk across stage in bikinis getting upset about one of the participants posing in her underwear?
This is Prejean, on-stage at the pageant:

This is the photo of Prejean that has pageant officials so worked up (a second one has been released and is currently being reported on breathlessly by the Huffington Post, if you care):

What’s the big deal?
Frankly, I find the whole notion of beauty pageants to be a little absurd. It’s like livestock judging, only with questions and a swimsuit competition. Tags: Asshats, Domestic Issues, Politics
