Michael Steele New GOP Chairman

WASHINGTON – Michael Steele was elected Republican National Committee chairman on Friday, defeating the incumbent party chief and three other challengers over six rounds of voting to become the first black to lead the GOP.

Michael Steele, former Lt. Governor of Maryland, was the first African American to be elected to statewide public office in Maryland. He is chairman of GOPAC and currently a partner in the law firm of Dewey & LeBoeuf in Washington, D.C.
Congratulations, Mr. Steele! And good luck! (You’ll need it!)

Steele being black is irrelevant! He is a thoughtful conservative, well organized, an intimate yet dynamic speaker with an infectious enthusiasm for his beliefs. And unlike some political figures, he doesn’t need a teleprompter. He will be a first rate chairman.

A pathetic attempt by the GOP to counter Obama and the Dems. Look everyone, we have a well spoken black man as a leader of our party as well.
The GOP is always sending me emails to join. After shamelessly electing an RNC chairman who thinks the 2nd Amendment is about hunting and skeet shooting, they can try and suck my membership $ out of Mike Steele’s cock. Fucking east coast moderate puke.
You people who like this guy are probably RINOS. No, not probably, I’m sure you moderate fuck-ups are RINOS. I suppose you RINOS thought McCain was a conservative as well?

Good news indeed! Steele should have been chosen over Sen. Mel Martinez the last time around. He is far more qualified than was any of the other candidates.

    isnt he a little left?

Hey, the first black party chair of a major political party. Way to go Michael Steele, I supported you from the get go, you be the man to lead. A great American, and a true conservative.

    Let’s roll.

    I dunno fellas.

The last few GOP chairmen have been real RINO’s. Selecting Martinez right after the Bush-McCain-Graham and Martinez wing really pissed off America by trying to ram Amnesty for Illegals down our throats, shows how out of touch the Beltway crowd has been with the real America that exists outside the Outer Loop.

If there is to be hope for the RNC / GOP, it will most likely come from far away from DC.

I supported him from the very beginning and am quite enthused (for once) about the direction the Republicans are taking.

  • dfwpike

I’m not sure he’s the best choice. He was the most moderate of the 5 candidates running. Since I’m not in full support I guess that makes me prejudiced, huh?

I WONDER WHY IT TOOK ELECTING A BLACK PRESIDENT BEFORE THE RNC CONSIDERED ELECTING A BLACK PERSON. WAKE UP MICHAEL YOU ARE THE BIGGEST UNCLE TOME SINCE UNCLE TOM’S CABIN. STOP BEING A PUPPET FOR THESE RACIST. IT WAS PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO ENABLED WHITE PEOPLE TO KEEP BLACK PEOPLE IN SLAVERY. THOUGHT WE WERE SICK OF BEING USED!! GUESS NOT HOPE YOU ENOY YOUR ENSLAVED PERIOD!!!

  • Bat One

    Julie,

Not only are you a marginally literate moron, you are a pitiful epitome of the very caricature of slow-witted black ignorance used by those who actually did “keep black people in slavery.”

The reason Mr. Steele is the first Black man to head a major political party in the US is because he is the first one to offer himself as a candidate for the job. Unlike Democrats, Republicans don’t anoint our party leaders. We elect them from those who choose to run for the position as candidates. If you had known this before you offered your witless comment, you might have saved yourself the embarrassment!

    More Democrat Lite.

    Indeed.

    The Democrat’s invented plantation politics.

    We need more Tall Republicans!

I am intrigued with the choice, but he’s got a lot of work cut out.

True that! But its most unlikely that GOP fortunes are going to sink any lower, and with Obama and the liberals running the economy into the ground over the next two years… Deficits as far as the eye can see, with no hope of substantive correction, the return of some serious inflation about two years from now, unfunded entitlement liabilities that dwarf even the Obama deficits. And then there’s the whole question of (radical) Islam and Iranian nukes. Think of it like building a business. The next 4 years will be challenging certainly, but it looks to be a great time to be a conservative Republican.

Actually, Steele was considered in 2006 and had a lot of support from conservatives.

But instead of Steele the RNC showed how racist it is and, uh, selected the Hispanic Mel Martinez as Chairman.

We’ll see how this works out. I am intrigued with the choice, but he’s got a lot of work cut out.
