Michael Moore At The Convention

Somebody should have been tasked with following Moore around and documenting what he does. Now that would be some entertaining coverage.

Secret Service agents weren't even letting the guy on the floor.

Reuters - Film maker Michael Moore (C) is prevented from entering the floor by U.S. Secret Service and convention security officials during the prime time program of the 2004 Republican National Convention at Madison Square Garden in New York, August 30, 2004. Moore was not arrested or removed from the convention, only denied access to the floor area.

I don't blame Republicans for not letting him in. If I were Bush I wouldn't want him anywhere near me. The guy is nuts and obviously has Bush in his targets. There's no telling what he'd do.

Enjoying every second of the attention. Which is all he’s ever been about.

There’s a term for fellows like him, right?
Oh, yeah.

It seems rather unfair that they won’t let him on the floor.  I imagine Ann Coulter had floor access for the DNC, and both her and Moore were filing reports for USA Today.

Umm, if I recall correctly, Coulter filed one story and USA Today canned her.  I’m not sure if her credentials were yanked though.

The ‘L’ is for himself, right?

Has to be.

I don’t think its unfair at all.  Republicans have a right to limit press access at their own convention.  If they don’t want to let Moore on the floor, for whatever reason, its their decision.  And I think its a good one.  There is a very good possibility that Moore would have tried to pull some kind of stunt to bring attention to himself out on the floor, something the Republicans shouldn’t have to let happen.

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

I heard that the issue was that if Michael Moore got access to the main floor, he would have access to the catering, which would have left delegates without anything to eat.

So much for freedom of the press for those who have legitimate press credendials, then.

I guess Karl Rove also had to take a seat outside.

The Republicans have a right to determine who’s alllowed in their convention, whether they have “legitimate press credentials” or not, and it has nothing to do with “freedom of the press” one way or the other.

If Moore were a legitimate journalist you might have a point.  But he’s not.  He doesn’t report facts, he formulates propaganda.  The same was true of Ann Coulter.  I wouldn’t have blamed the Dems for barring her from their convention either.

And don’t make this out to be a crushing of dissent situation.  Journalists already outnumber delegates at the convention and with people like Al Franken there you’ll have plenty of biased reporting to sate your appetite.
