Michael Medved: Rush Limbaugh Is Acting Like A Liberal

A lot of people on the right are upset over Rush Limbaugh’s dislike of John McCain, accusing him of setting his bar for who is and is not an appropriately conservative candidate too high.  Apparently these people feel that Limbaugh should carry water for whoever the Republican nominee is instead of adhering to his political principles.

Michael Medved has been one of the loudest of these critics, citing McCain’s rise in the GOP primary this year as evidence of Limbaugh’s declining influence and even going so far as to accuse Limbaugh of acting like a liberal.

One wonders if Medved actually believes this line of argument or is simply baiting Rush in order to get mentioned a dozen or so times on the most listened to talk radio show in the country.  Regardless, I doubt the condescension from people who feel as Medved does toward those conservatives who want a candidate that is strong on illegal immigration and isn’t a populist is going to gain a lot of traction.  In the end many Republicans may be willing to acknowledge the inevitability of a McCain nomination, and support him because he’s at least an improvement over a Hillary presidency, while still recognizing that he’s a terrible candidate when it comes to certain other issues like illegal immigration, campaign finance reform, fiscal conservatism, etc.

But that doesn’t mean all Republicans will, and people on the right like Medved may live to regret their attempts to shove McCain down everyone’s throats when disillusioned Republicans of the more libertarianish variety/border securityish variety choose to stay home instead of support him.

I think Medved must read this blog.  We were way out in front on this issue before the poop hit the fan.

You know who your friends are and who the sore losers are.

I listened to Rush today.  What a baby.  Big shot faux convention speech.  Pompass ass.

I have a Rush is Right Bumper sticker above my desk where I am typing right now and I have a ditto cup I drink coffee from.

Both are going away.  Rush who claims all the high road of principle has none.

Like was said on another thread, winning is a principle, voting is a principle.

I hated McCain’s performance tonite on the CNN debate.  Romney was just as bad.  Hucks still my boy.  But, I’ll vote for any Republican and when the nomination is secure I’ll campaign for him.

To do less is unprincipled.  Rush you sit on your unprincipled rear end and keep telling us how wonderful you are.  I’m not there any more.

I listen to his show fairly often, and Medved is a very thoughtful guy, so I won’t dismiss what he says out of hand.

He is certainly more of an adult than Rush Limbaugh.

Rush is often a bit more of a bomb thrower than I like, but I’m with him on this.

I’m tired of just falling in line behind whoever the GOP nominee is.  I’m proud that Rush isn’t going to just carry water for whoever the GOP nominee is.

It’s a level of principle we should all aspire to.

The war against illegal plunder has been fought since the beginning of the world. But how is… legal plunder to be identified? Quite simply. See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime. Then abolish this law without delay … If such a law is not abolished immediately it will spread, multiply and develop into a system.

A level of principle that puts Hillary in the White House?

That, my friends, would be unconscionable.

Say goodbye to free enterprise and victory in the War on Terror.

Why would it be unconscionable? Where do Hillary and McCain differ in any meaningful sense?

Despite Hillary’s anti-war rhetoric, she wouldn’t withdraw the troops (she’s said as much), and the war is the only reason to vote for McCain in theory.

Rush is often a bit more of a bomb thrower…

Since when is telling the truth about the positions someone has taken, along with illustrating it with their own word “bomb throwing”?

Despite Hillary’s anti-war rhetoric, she wouldn’t withdraw the troops (she’s said as much)…

As we all know, Hillary always tells the truth.../sarcasm

That is more comment on Rush’s style rather than substance, I think.

What Rush says it true; the “style” argument is a strictly emotional one.

I notice that Medved was unable to refute anything that Rush has said about McCain; weak cheese, IMO.

Medved is a booger looking for more fingers.

Spoken like a true stranger to reality!

Those who think the party or the country, will be “taught a lesson” by handing the levers of power over to the liberals will learn a lesson, but it will be at the expense of our country and her liberties. And there are no guarantees that the party or the country will come out stronger, more conservative or better positioned to win elections against the incumbent liberals.
