Media Hypes Day Of “Stunning” Revelations About Sarah Palin

I’ll admit that the news about Bristol Palin’s pregnancy did shock me, but I think the Associated Press is reaching a bit with this:

ST. PAUL, Minn. - John McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, said Monday her 17-year-old unmarried daughter was five months pregnant, the latest in a string of disclosures that left the McCain campaign defending his choice and the thoroughness of the background check of the little-known Alaska governor.

It was also revealed Monday that an attorney had been hired to represent Palin in a state ethics probe and that her husband, Todd, had been arrested for drunken driving two decades ago. The man who led McCain’s vice presidential search team said he thought everything that came up as a possible red flag during the background check had now been made public.

Todd Palin got a DUI twenty years ago.  So what?  President Bush got a DUI in 1976 and America elected him.  Twice.

Hell, Ted Kennedy drove off a bridge in a drunken stupor in 1968 and killed a former member of his brother’s campaign staff and he’s been re-elected to the Senate every six years since.

As for Palin getting an attorney in “Troopergate,” it’s worth noting (though the Associated Press doesn’t until a couple of dozen paragraphs into the story) that the State of Alaska hired him to represent Palin.

As for the Alaska probe, a Republican-dominated legislative committee is investigating whether Palin dismissed Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan after he refused to fire a state trooper who had divorced Palin’s sister.

The state’s attorney general, Talis Colberg, hired Thomas V. Van Flein more than two weeks ago to represent Palin and members of her staff, according to Van Flein.

Besides, I didn’t think that hiring a lawyer was supposed to incriminate you.  Aren’t innocent people entitled to legal counsel as well?  Plus, “Troopergate” is such a pathetic scandal as to not even warrant the ubiquitous (and annoying) “-gate” nomenclature.  The worst case scenario is that Palin pressured the Commissioner of Public Safety to fire a bad cop who had been making death threats and had been found drinking alcohol in his patrol car.  Big flippin’ deal.

If a pregnant daughter, a canned dirty cop and a two-decades-old misdemeanor are the best the slime-slingers on the left can come up with on Palin color me underwhelmed.

Your spin is getting much better since this mornign:

This certainly doesn’t reflect well on the Palins as parents.

You must have posted that before you had your coffee.

Spin?  I fail to see where my positions are mutually exclusive.

I don’t think the pregnancy reflects well on Todd and Sarah Palin.  But I don’t think it disqualifies Sarah from leadership either.

The purpose of government shouldn’t be to do good, but simply to refrain from doing evil.

How is that search for scientific proof that sex ed courses are more effective than abstinence courses?

Funniest part is, through all the media digging on Palin for a VP slot, there is much more that could be said about Biden as a VP also - and yet, there is nothing, or very little that has been said by the media about Biden.

With as much media attention as Palin is getting, you would think that SHE is the one running for president and not McCain.

Damn!

It seems for some that the qualifications for political office are now matching the qualifications for sainthood.

So far, I see an American family dealing with the normal tribulations of every day life. (Normal in the sense that these events are not unusual nor unexpected in the general population).

As far as I see, the family, and the candidate, are reacting in accordance with their beliefs.

Say what you will, I am impressed.

Her treatment she’s getting reminds me of how the newspaper mogul acted to Mr. Smith, when he went to Washington.

BTW, Smith won!

The Left wing of the Dem party is on a tear—let it go—they will reveal to the world what donkeys they are.  These are mean-spirited people and they do what comes naturally to them.
Second thought: as a parent and grand-parent I would say that one wishes only the best for one’s children and progeny; that said, our children are free individuals, just as we would want them to be, and they will make choices for themselves—-we can only advise, if we are allowed.  This is life and free choice. To the Palins: our prayers.

The pregnancy issue is dumb. I had sex before 18, and chances are most people in this country today will have sex before 18 as well. The only difference is, most people are smart enough to use protection and lucky enough that the condom won’t break. But the question you really have to ask yourself, are most people in these situations moral and responsible enough not to have an abortion? I’m ashamed to say that had I impregnated someone before 18, I would have opted for an abortion.

As to her husband’s DUI, was she even married to him at the time? This is another non-issue.

As for “Troopergate”, maybe the situation could have been handled a bit differently, but the end result was a necessity. Could you imagine this scenario? If the officer wasn’t fired, what if he drove his squad car drunk and killed another driver or pedestrian? Could you imagine the level of criticism she would have received? They would say, “She knew about his problems and still did not fire him. That shows poor leadership and gross incompetence.” As for the firing of Monegan, he worked for her so if he wouldn’t obey directions, then she had no choice but to terminate/discipline him.

Ya know… if we go by some off the BS being flung here about Palin’s past. Then let’s go into BO and JB’s past with a fine comb. Oh..that’s right, if we check out the BO we are being racist. If you want to go on about her character, I would put her WAY..WAY above BO on any past indiscretions. What I have seen so far of Palin is she steps up to a problem and discusses it. She does not pull a BO and say that it is “Above my pay grade” or “I will not debate on FOX”. Hard questions avoided. Like most of his political life. I feel sorry that you defend someone that will not stand up for anything. I know a lot of liberals that I respect because they stand up for what they believe in.
So far Palin is facing each questions without hiding. I respect her for that even if I do not agree with everything she stands for.

Rob,
You neglected another revelation. Oh, and you also forgot about her various forms of support for corrupt Mr. Stevens.

Frankly, the secessionist streak in her past is pretty sweet. We might finally get a federal politician who gives a shit about the 10th amendment.

My thoughts exactly.  Crap happens, I’m more interested in how it’s dealt with.  I’ve been unimpressed with Obamas handling of crap, blaming McCain for the Russian invasion for example.

blaming McCain for the Russian invasion for example

when did the Obama-noble snowman do that?

In my eyes, The Sarah Palin family represents a very typical American family. In other words ... family shit happens.
I commend them for dealing with issues and moving on ..something I believe others could learn a lot from

My hyperbole.  His handlers blamed McCain for ‘escalating’ the problem when all would obviously be peaches and ice cream with the proper use of nice words.

The Republicans would say that if she can’t manage her own kids how can she be expected to manage the country.

Would they not?

Instead of finding things to attack each other over, why don’t we find areas where we can agree, and find compromise long enough to take a step back and enjoy the recognition of our similarities?

Then, we can take steps forward in a constructive way, together, to tackle the issues where we really do disagree.

Hanny,
Have you ever seen a chick that hangs around another that’s pregnant?
Suddenly, they get all excited & their hormones start ragin’.
THEY can’t help it, it’s nature.
Now, figger a teen girl already fighting her change in Life.

Reb,

Elaborate on that please.  I am curious to see where you are going.

I made this point a couple days back but I’ll gladly re-type.
It’s commonly thought that when women live in the same house or spend time together, they’ll “syncronize their biological clocks”.
Her Momma was pregnant & it makes sense that the girl felt the hormonal pull to be pregnant, as well.

They do tend to get their menstrual cycles in synch, but that’s probably pheromonal.  I don’t know if pregnancy is included there.

I DO know this….
EVERY time my Wife holds a baby, she want’s another.
I’ve seen several times when chicks that are good friends become pregnant close to the same time.
Bear in mind, this is just my theory, due to me not being a chick.

Interesting.

I don’t really see this as a big issue.

The most damaging aspect of this situation is that it shows that teaching your child abstinence is much less effective as teaching them that if you are going to have sex, use a condom.

Wrong, moron!  If they had abstained, no problem.  It works every time it’s practiced.  Sex training in schools, on the other hand, sexualizes children and leads to pregnancy and STDs.  Teaching them to have sex is the problem.

Why?

By age 16, more than half of Americans have lost their virginity. Does that mean that half of America’s parents are bad?

Eddie_the_Hated on September 2, 2008 at 11:36 am

If they had abstained, no problem.

But they didn’t abstain.  That is why teaching abstinence is not as effective as teaching kids to use condoms.

Wrong!  Teaching abstinence tells you how to absolutely prevent pregnancy and STDs; training them to be sexual, then promising them they’ll be “safe” if they use condoms is a lie.

Big difference.

The problem is that the govt schools’ sex training classes have brainwashed generations of children that there is such a thing as “safe” sex; sex is never safe.  It’s another leftie Big Lie.
