McPeak: Jews Get In The Way Of Middle East Peace

Barack Obama's foreign policy advisor campaign co-chair Air Force General Merrill A. McPeak (retired) said this in a 2003 interview with the Oregonian:

The other reason I would have put it ahead is I don't think we have anything like a strategy for the Middle East. And what we're doing in Iraq ought to be a piece of a larger undertaking. And it has all the aspects of a kind of a slapdash pickup fight, you know, where - I mean you always call audibles in war, but we're drawing the plays on the ground in the huddle here. We don't have a playbook for the Middle East. You know, for instance, obviously, a part of that long-term strategy would be getting the Israelis and the Palestinians together at . . . something other than a peace process. Process is not a substitute for achievement or settlement. And even so the process has gone off the tracks, but the process isn't enough. . . . We need to get it fixed and only we have the authority with both sides to move them towards that. Everybody knows that.

So where's the problem? State? White House?

New York City. Miami. We have a large vote - vote, here in favor of Israel. And no politician wants to run against it.

Actually I was thinking of the larger lack of a Middle East strategy. Does that emanate out of the State Department or out of the White House, combination of both, is it a personality struggle, what's - what's going on?

I think that everybody understands that a settlement of the Arab-Israeli problem would require the Israelis to stop settling the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, and maybe even withdraw some of the settlements that've already been put there. And nobody wants to take on that problem. It's just too tough politically. So that means we can't . . . you can't develop a Middle East strategy. It's impossible.

Do you think . . . there's an element within Hamas, Hezbollah, that doesn't want Israel to exist at all and always will be there?

Absolutely.

McPeak admits that Hamas and Hezbollah want to exterminate Israel, yet believes that Jews in New York and Miami are the ones foiling middle east peace.

Is it smart for Obama to keep this dunce around much longer?

P.S. McPeak is the guy who drubbed Hillary by saying that Obama "doesn't go on television and have crying fits; he isn't discovering his voice at the age of 60."

Don't say the guy doesn't speak his mind.

That is not what he said at all.

You are dishonest.

Palestinians are not equivalent to Hamas or Hezbollah.  His point was that both sides must give if there is to be peace and the political reality is that the pro Israeli lobby won’t allow a policy that expects Israel to give.

He recognizes that this is a complicated problem.  He is not the dunce, you are.

He said that Hamas and Hezbollah want to destroy Israel.

He said Jews in America are getting in the way of middle east peace.

His words, not mine.

That makes him dishonest, if anything.

You act as if he said that it was entirely the Jews fault.  Its not as if he gave the Palestinians a pass.  He said that Israel would have to withdraw from Gaza to have peace and that politically that is an untenable position.

Explain to me what is incorrect about his statement.

Hawk, if you cannot see that Hezbollah and Hamas sending rockets and suicide bombers are much more of a threat to middle east peace than Jewish voters in America, there is just no hope for you.

What there is clearly is an inability for wither of these peace loving people to ever stop killing each other. To debate the who’s and what’s of is almost as assinine as their philosophy of avenging death with more death. We would probably do the world a great deed if we stepped out of the way and let these two peace loving people slaughter each other, maybe just maybe eventually they would come to their senses and realize that nobody can win and then live in peace, this crap is the song that never ends at this point.

Where did he say they weren’t a problem.  His point was that America is not an honest broker in the dispute because the politicians are too scared of losing their job because of the Israeli lobby.

If you recall what Bin Laden said in his last communique, it was that negotiating peace with Israel was unacceptable, only the total destruction of Israel and the annihilation of every Jew on earth is acceptable to Allah. Iamabadhandjob from Iran has said the same thing, as have most Arab leaders.

Arafat at the Camp David Summit had being conceded by Barak roughly 98% of what the Palestinians have been demanding for decades, and still he walked away without agreement. Why? The total destruction of Israel and annihilation of all Jews is not negotiable, no matter how much Israel gives to the Palestinians, there will be no peace - not ever.

We would probably do the world a great deed if we stepped out of the way and let these two peace loving people slaughter each other, maybe just maybe eventually they would come to their senses and realize that nobody can win and then live in peace, this crap is the song that never ends at this point.

We have more than less stepped out of the way every time the Palestinians attacked Israel. Did you know that since 1948 Israel has been condemned innumerable times by the U.N. for their military defense of their land in response to missile strikes and suicide bombings from the Palestiniansa, land Jews alone have rights to; and not once - not once has the U.N. condemned Hezbollah, Hamas or any murderous Palestinian military or terrorist organization? No rational human being could ever accuse Israel as being the aggressor in the Middle East. They are surrounded by large, hate filled Arab neighbors with powerful military forces, they have been attacked more times than man can count and they are the ones condemned and hated by most of the world for defending their land, land for which the so-called Palestinians have no rights whatsoever.

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

McPeak.  “The witch is dead” when he left the theatre.  Yes, just get rid of those pesky Jews and all will be peaceful.  Right.  Evil exists in this world.

The other day I was stuck where I could watch, but not hear CNN.  For the hour I was there it looked like the Obama show.  First you’d have Obama giving a speech, then you’d have a talking head, then Obama.

It’s only topical because they cut into a speech by this McPeak guy and the title under him said only that he was a retired 3 star general, not a senior Obama campaign official.

What’s going to happen to US industry when the global warming extremists like John McCain double the price of electricity?  I would think all these factories will close and set up in countries where they aren’t scared of technology.

Hawk - Palestinians are not equivalent to Hamas or Hezbollah.

The majority of Palestinians agree with Hamas and their goals. The majority of Palestinians will accept nothing less than the complete destruction of Israel. The majority of Palestinians approve of wantonly killing Israeli civilians.

They’re about as equivalent as can be.

His point was that both sides must give if there is to be peace and the political reality is that the pro Israeli lobby won’t allow a policy that expects Israel to give.

The Oslo Accords puts the lie to that nonsense.

He recognizes that this is a complicated problem.  He is not the dunce, you are.

Your argument is weak and filled with factual holes. All you’re left with is insults.
