McCain Pulls Out Of Fundraiser For Candidate Critical Of His Immigration Bill

Guess McCain can’t take a little criticism.

Republican Sen. John McCain was scheduled to host a fundraiser for congressional candidate Brian Bilbray today – but immigration got in the way.
Bilbray has disdainfully called the McCain-backed immigration bill “amnesty” for illegal immigrants, something McCain disputes. Bilbray’s Democratic opponent in the race, Francine Busby, supports the Arizona senator’s proposal, calling it “a tough, comprehensive plan.”

Kudos to Bilbray for taking a stand based on principles, even when doing so put a damper on his election hopes. I think this guy sounds like someone we need in Washington.
In fact, here’s a link to Bilbray’s campaign website where you can donate to his campaign. We probably can’t make up for the loss of McCain’s fundraiser, but we can probably make it hurt a little less.

Not being endorsed by the only living NVAAF ace is a bad thing?

  • http://limeshurbet.com/ Robert

According to the news out here in California, Bilbray rescinded the invitation for McCain to attend.

McCain destroyed 5 US Navy aircraft on deck in one stroke. His fellow Navy Aviators awarded him that honor.

    2H9,

I’ve heard the whispered rumors for years as well. If ’08 comes down to McCain v. Clinton, we’re in one helluva mess, my friend!

I don’t get the NVAAF reference. Google and wikipedia are no help. What’s the scoop 2H9?

(signed, Marty, the little guy who — God be praised [it's a long story] — aced his ASVAB but flunked the hearing test)

I’m with Marty on this one… NVAAF???

  • TwoHotel9

Yep, this is kind of the point I keep making. No true conservative has yet stepped forward. Then again, it is only ’06.

Not to defend McCain, but all these politicians are too thin-skinned.
Remember when Bush didn’t speak to the NAACP?

    Rob,
    Exept for Mike Huckabee,
    I agree.

Certainly not George (We don’t need no steenkeing charisma) Allen.

Huckabee may be our best hope.

    Or Mdme Pres is Next.

I have no other Candidate. Neither do the Republicans, sadly.

    TwoHotelNiner,

    Now that IS cold!

  • Carrick

    I think he meant NVAF.

    North Vietnamese Air Force.

Relax guys, McCain has no more chance of being president than Hillary. Unless they run on the same ticket…shit.

  • TwoHotel9

I have known what the man is since ’75.

To be honest with you, I don’t know who I like out there for the GOP nod for President.

McCain is a pandering jerk. Campaign finance reform alone put him out of the running for me.

Mitt Romney? Mr. Romneycare? No thanks.

Mike “Tax ‘Em All” Huckabee? No thanks.

Condi Rice is interesting, but she’s a long-shot for the nomination and I’d have to know more about her domestic policies.
