McCain/Jindal In 2008?

There’s a lot of buzz about this Bill Kristol column which indicates that McCain staffers are throwing around newly-elected Louisiana Governor/political phenom Bobby Jindal’s name for VP.
Personally? I think McCain needs Bobby more than Bobby needs McCain.
I like Bobby Jindal a great deal. I think his mix of reform-minded conservatism and youth/vitality would be the perfect antidote to McCain’s weak-kneed conservative principles and rather *ahem* wintered visage. But even so, I think it’d be better to wait on Bobby. Just as its a bad idea to rush a young star pitcher to the majors too quickly, it’s a bad idea to put Bobby on the national stage before he’s ready.
I mean, look at what it’s done for Obama. He rises up the ranks of the Democrat party quickly and thrusts himself onto the national stage only to burned in a number of different ways that experienced campaigners would have avoided. Which isn’t to say that Bobby is Barack (I can’t imagine that Jindal has a close relationship with a spiritual adviser and mentor who enjoys damning America on weekends), but I think the wisdom holds firm.
Let Bobby get some executive experience under his belt. Let him fix all of Louisiana’s goals. Then let’s look at putting him in the White House, except perhaps at the top of a strong reform ticket instead of at the bottom of a ticket nobody in the Republican party is really all that excited about.

Jindal would be a great choice, but I think it’s too early for him. Frankly, you might see him on the Republican ticket for the top spot in 2012, certainly no later that 2016.

Right now, though, we need him right here in Louisiana. He’s already pushed reform legislation through that will make state legislators disclose their finances – and any ties to companies with bidding on state contracts. That’s a first for this state.

And because of that the Louisiana Supreme Court is pushing a rule through madating the same for judges.

    It’s about time.

I’m also a huge fan of JC Watts, he would be a great VP candidate. But I don’t think he wants it. Too bad, McCain needs him too. I think McCain is going to stick it to us, he has no interest in taking a “true conservative”. Besides what “true conservative” could sit by on the ticket while McCain goes and courts the likes of La Raza?

Fully agree. Jindal–2012 or 2016 and beyond.

Definitely have hopes for Jindal in the future, but I’m with pparets, I’m a big fan of JC Watts. But frankly, I don’t have any confidence that McCain will pick anybody that exciting.

I agree on rising star Jindal.

McCain aught to take a close, serious look at J.C. Watts of Oklahoma. Watts, an attractive and articulate African-American and a former Canadian pro football player, has 4 terms in the House under his belt, gave a riveting, rousing speech at the Republican convention in 2000, and possesses genuine conservative values.

In a tight race against Obama or Clinton, Watts could erode some democrat votes and open the doors to a broader GOP base.

Jindal is too young and we need a person with more experience.

Jindal is fantastic but, he needs to stay in Louisiana for 8 years to fix that place – hopefully once and for all.

And McCain proved what an idiot he is by standing in New Orleans and lambasting President Bush declaring it will never happen again. Bobby Jindal’s overwhelming election is PROOF Senator McCain, that New Orleans’ problems were primarily caused by people from NO and LA, from the Mayor up to the Governor and many people in between. The true incompetence happened at the local and state level and THAT is what you should have been lambasting you idiot.

I agree with the theory that McCain needs a “Jindal” a LOT more than a Jindal needs McCain. In fact Jindal should say NO, and not sully a future Presidency by association with this clown McCain.
