McCain Gets Asked At Public Appearance: “How Do We Beat The Bitch?”

I guess some say this marks the level to which our political discourse has stooped, but really it’s probably what most people on the right (and plenty on the left too) think of Hillary anyway.  Heck, she knows it, and is no stranger to profane invective herself.

Besides, I don’t find that whole “coarsening of the debate” argument very convincing anyway.  Modern politics has evolved from a history that involved fist fights in the House of Representatives, and the sort of biting rhetoric in partisan newspapers of old that would make modern reporters blush.

Politics has always been nasty.  Perhaps it has just seemed more so as things like the 24/7 news cycle and the internet has put more of it in front of the public.

Beating the Bitch is easy.

Imply the Bitch is a homosexual.

Accuse the Bitch of treason .

Point out the Bitch is mentally unstable.

Let people know about the Bitch’s
illegitimate black daughter.

The usual appeal to the base.

John McCain knows all about being bitch slapped.

So you’re condoning vulgar insults in our political debate?

I agree 100% that politics is now blood sport, but I think he should have gently said “Ma’am, let’s be careful that we don’t emulate the Daily Kos in our discourse.  Even if we should win by doing so, we lose.”

Put differently, those fistfights on the House floor to which you refer actually preserved a degree of civility, much like hockey fights are said to prevent really nasty cheap shots by providing an outlet for the offender to “get his.”
