McCain Criticizes Obama For Refusing To Visit Iraq With Him

McCain says Obama won’t know the truth about the progress in Iraq until he visits. Obama says such a visit would be little more than a political stunt.
Who’s right? I’d say McCain, and not because I’m a war-supporting conservative. The war in Iraq is an important part of this country’s foreign policy, and an important consideration in this campaign. If the man who would like to become commander-in-chief has an opportunity to visit the war he’ll be in charge of should he get elected, shouldn’t he do that?
You’d think. But then, as far as Obama is concerned, what’s actually happening in Iraq doesn’t really matter. Because his stance on Iraq as an issue isn’t one formulated upon a consideration of the war as policy but rather on partisan politics.

What the hell would McSame know about what is actually happening in Iraq?

"There are neighborhoods in Baghdad where you and I could walk through those neighborhoods, today."

    Jack,

What the hell would [strike]McSame[/strike] Obama know about what is actually happening in Iraq?

Don't you think a visit to Iraq after 2 years would give him some insight to conditions there? Or he could just continue to rely on the same tripe you and yours regurgitate.

I think it's very revealing that Obama would consider a visit to Iraq "a political stunt". That pretty much describes his whole campaign.

Recalling McCain's last stroll through the markets of Baghdad, I suspect that Obama's response is the right one.

  • HG

    Mike,

Given the fact that Obama thinks it would be a "political stunt" to visit Iraq, and given the conditions of McCain's last visit and his willingness to return, maybe Obama could send a stunt double? At least this way he wouldn't look like a sissy compared to McCain.

Really though, Al Quaeda endorses Obama, he has little to fear.

The "right one" for a coward, maybe, but not for someone who wants to be President of the United States.

Obama will visit Iraq before the General Election ramps up… he has to. Otherwise, it will be FAR to easy for McCain to poke huge holes in Obama with the whole Military Experience thing.

Can you imagine the ads showing Obamas talk about Iraq and a voice over informing viewers that Obama hasn't even seen the country X number of months while McCain has been there repeatedly and talked to troops on the ground?

Obviously Obama isn't going to put himself in a position where he is "taking McCains advice", but he HAS to visit the country…

  • Andydakota

The last thing Obama wants is to be "educated" my McBush.

  • Bat One

Young Mr. Obama had better have someone knowledgeable go with him to translate when he changes his mind and goes to Iraq.. He speaks neither Farsi, nor G.I.

  • andydakota

Well, he certainly doesn't need to go with McCain, he can't even tell who the enemy is and how well to be armed during a shopping spree.

  • Bat One

    Andy,

You comment might be just a bit more incisive if you weren't quite so enamored of ambiguous and redundant personal pronouns.

You're making yourself look a good deal more foolish and inept than your are John McCain.

  • MikeAdamson

HG…AQ may have endorsed him but their record of getting their voters to the polls is pretty dismal. Speaking of publicity stunts…;)

  • andydakota

From your response Batty, it is clear that you got the point, thank you.

  • FlyOnTheWall

I think Obama ran a poll and found Iraq doesn't matter.

(I'll sink back into my miasma of cynicism now.)
