McCain Campaign Continues To Implode

Apparently John McCain’s campaign manager and also his chief strategist are no longer with him.  This is from the campaign’s official press release:

ARLINGTON, VA - Terry Nelson, Campaign Manager and John Weaver, Chief Strategist for John McCain 2008 issued the following statements:

“This morning I informed Senator McCain that I would be resigning from his presidential campaign, effective immediately. It has been a tremendous honor to serve Senator McCain and work on his campaign. I believe John McCain is the most experienced and prepared candidate to represent the Republican Party and defeat the Democratic nominee next year.” - Terry Nelson, Campaign Manager

“As of today, I have resigned my position as chief strategist to John McCain’s presidential campaign. It has been my honor and a distinct privilege to serve someone who has always put our country first. I believe that most Americans will come to the conclusion that I have long known there is only one person equipped to serve as our nation’s chief executive and deal with the challenges we face, and that person is John McCain.” - John Weaver, Chief Strategist

This is from the AP’s coverage:

One official said Terry Nelson resigned as campaign manager for the Republican presidential candidate and John Weaver stepped down from his post of chief strategist on Tuesday. But another official said Nelson was fired.

The officials spoke on the condition of anonimity because the shake-up has not been made public.

A pretty shoddy move if they resigned, and one not likely to garner them a lot of future work.  Campaigns have low points, but come-from-behind victories aren’t unheard of even in this modern age of politics.  Who wants to hire integral campaign staffers who quit when things get hard?

If I had to guess, these guys were fired.

The thing this campaign really needs is a viable candidate who doesn’t hold the voters in contempt.

McCain is much more popular in his own mind than he is in reality. Dems love him because he is a wishy washy spineless twerp.

I will be glad when the head line comes that he has withdrawn his so-called candidacy.

The press loves him because he sucks up to them and he does what they want as often as not.

I am glad his campain is imploding, I do not want him representing my party. His careless attitude for the will of the people, specifically the will of the conservatives whom make up the far majority of his party, is distressing. Guillini is no better. The GOP is trying to force feed the conservatives candidates that will result in an exodus from the party.

J McC has supported Bush on the war and immigration, nobody can run on that platform, it’s underwater.

J McC’s staffers are not required to go down with the ship.

Maybe they were worried about getting paid.
