McCain Calls For “Common Sense” Conservatism

Hmm…

WASHINGTON – On the heels of devastating GOP losses, Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) called on the Republican Party to return to its common-sense conservatism — and implicitly cast himself as the one who can lead the party’s rebirth.
“We lost our principles and our majority. And there is no way to recover our majority without recovering our principles first,” the Arizona Republican said Thursday in the first of two speeches that could set the tone for a potential presidential campaign.

I might take that sort of talk about conservative principles more seriously were it not coming from the mouth of a man who co-wrote and co-sponsored one of the most eggregious limitations on free political speech ever passed in this country.
I’m sorry, but I’m not willing to listen to any talk from John McCain about “conservative principles” until he apologizes for campaign finance reform.

I like Newt, but agree that he wouldn’t win.

I disagree with Guiliani’s chances. I think he would win, but I don’t like him a whole lot more than McCain.

Is that John “Keating 5″ McCain lecturing us on principles?

Is he the one that made those racial slurs about Americans”

Or was he the one that picked on the Presidents Daughter?

Actually I’ll just not support him because he’s in favor of amnesty for lawbreakers.

Again, like McCain, I think Guiliani could win the Presidency but not the nomination.

You might be surprised but Republicans DONT need to carry New York to win the White House. (But I think Guiliani very well would win NY.)

Giuliani successfully prosecuted a number of Mafia figures in a series of well-orchestrated, well-publicized trials. But Rudy’s real claim to fame and the keys to Gracie Mansion was his take-down of the so-called “Junk Bond King” Michael Milken and Drexel, Burham, Lambert, and not a couple of semi-retired, over-the-hill wise guys.

Actually, Giuliani didn’t get a conviction on Milken. Instead of going to trial, a trial he could well have lost, Giuliani threatened Milken’s younger brother with all manner of judicial horrors, until the older Milken who is a fiercely devoted family man, agreed to a plea deal in exchange for which Rudy agreed to lay of the brother.

That we are able to do this over something called the internet, via DLS, cable, and wireless modems and routers is in no small regard the result of Michael Milken’s financial genius. That he was prosecuted and counted a criminal is an outrage and a stain on this country’s judicial history.

I certainly would NEVER support McCain in the primaries. If he’s the best of the two candidates running for President, yeah I’ll hold my nose and vote for him.

But you’ll hold your nose and vote for him in 2008.

Sparkie Arbuckle said, Although a Guiliani loss would be great. I can hear all the Hitler-esque nationalistic, religious 9-11 speaches he would give already.
“I watched all those people die from my mafia funded apartment and well…

Guiliani – he’s the guy who made himself a name by going after the mafia as a federal prosecutor, right?

NeoconsOut! – thanks for finally revealing what the definition of a “Neocon”. It is someone who supports national defense. Your Rolling Stones link had me laughing. We can land people on the moon and safely return them, but a missile defense shield? Why, that’s just impossible. It reminds me of the people who said for millenia that heavier than air flight was impossible.

You two looney toons are not serious people.

  • NeoconsOut!

I was kind of shocked (maybe I’m just out of the loop on this one) to learn that John McCain is either a neocon himself and/or is in bed with them. Shocked! SHOCKED I am!

Can we ever trust another President that cavorts with the lunatics that brought us the war in Iraq?

But you’ll hold your nose and vote for him in 2008.

Only because he’ll be one step better then whatever lousy, appeasing, tax-and-spend, pro-open-borders candidate the Democrats trot out.

I really don’t think Guiliani would win. No one in NYC likes him. No one elsewhere likes him unless they are in the party. People will think the whole card he’ll need to play is tacky at that point in time.

You guys don’t want to support McCain because you want to loose in ’08. Hee hee hee. I think the GOP should put up Pat Buchanan. He would def win (hee hee hee).
Gingrich and Guiliani stand a bats chance in hell of winning. Although a Guiliani loss would be great. I can hear all the Hitler-esque nationalistic, religious 9-11 speaches he would give already.
“I watched all those people die from my mafia funded apartment and well, it just fucked me up. I knealt down before my platinum crucifix that I got after I ordered my 200th hit and paryed to Jesus that I could use the whole thing for personal advancement and be president someday.”
    That might be amusing.
