Maybe It Is A Good Thing For Democrats To Get To 60

Been thinking a lot about what the makeup of DC will look like if they hit 60 Senators and they are filibuster proof.
I’m starting to think it might not be the worst thing in the world for them to get to 60. See, the problem is if they get to 59 and the GOP can filibuster than every legislative agenda item that passes or fails will undoubtedly be blamed on the GOP if it turns out bad. On the other hand, every good piece of policy will be claimed as victory by the Democrats.
Now, I realize that even if they don’t get to 60 nearly everything will pass anyway as some people will cross the aisle, which if it good legislation is a good thing. But there is little chance there will be straight party votes on many issues.
The idea of 58 or 59 is really potentially what some Democrats are hoping for. It gives them leeway to not look stupid. If they get to 60 they will start grasping at straws and an upheaval could be in the works for 2010 and 2012 similar to Newt’s Contract with America days.

The damage they will inflict is not worth the time and expense it will require to repair it.

The damage they inflict won’t GET FIXED, regardless of how much money and time we spend on it.

We’re still dealing with the screwups of FDR.

They will be able to anyway – you aren’t going to see many 59-41 votes.

Which screw ups of FDR exactly? His economic policies that helped to end the Great Depression and help the people he was supposed to help?

Farm subsidies to pay people NOT to farm. This artificially drives the price of food up as it limits supplies, and it costs us in the form of higher taxes. (We get it from both ends. Let us be clear, when people have no money, driving up the price of food is evil. Making it national policy to destroy food in times of shortage is evil. People starved to death because of FDR.

The minimum wage (and all it’s increases). Called THE most anti-black and anti-poor law on the books by almost all economists. Far from popular mythology that it was made to “help the poor”, the law was enacted to price the South and blacks out of the market. The North couldn’t compete with the south and unionized whites were unable to compete with blacks in terms of price. And as the market is supposed to do, jobs were going to the South and to blacks. FDR DELIBERATELY hurt people to pass his agenda.

Union laws that force an employer to negotiate with the union, and dont allow them to hire non-union employees.

There’s more, but I’ve made my point.

FDR didn’t get us out of the Great Depression…WWII did. I agree with Chief.

I am pulling for Coleman and the guy in Georgia that slips my mind right now.

Unions guarantee fair pay for their work, without unions Americans would be without many things, health care, fair wages, fair hours. I worked at McDonalds at sixteen and working without a union guaranteed I was EASILY replaced so I got paid minimum wage, which at sixteen in my state of michigan is 85% of an Adults Minimum wage, were I in a union I would have made more money, sure I’d have to pay dues but that would be nothing in comparison to the gain.

FDR’s policies extended the depression. The second world war is what lifted America out of the economic turmoil brought on by the government. Democrat fantacy would like to re edit history to reflect otherwise, but what else is new?

Look at the rest of the world. Their version of the GREAT DEPRESSION was shorter and less severe than ours was under FDR. Anytime socialism is foisted on the people of the world, there is a pull back in productivity and wealth creation.

I too am concerned about what we will have to dig out from under, when Obama is done with his term, but think of it this way. If things change drastically and if the Republicans can get their sh*t together, we might be able to get out from under most of it in 2 years.

    Might be worth the education.

My main concern is the courts. If he packs them with more liberals, we will have California everywhere. The people keep voting what they want and the courts keep saying, we know what is best.

    Screw that…..

GMan, good idea. Give them the change they voted for!
    Lock and load.
Kenny. I agree with you 100%. Unions are disgusting and archaic. to use a liberal term back on them.
The honest people will survive. The liberal druggies will sink in their own mire.

From a business perspective, it makes sense to negotiate with everyone if they walk out. But after a while, replacing them is the better option.

If I wish to work at Schnucks, it will cost me 1500 dollars to join the union. And if I don’t really want to…tough, I HAVE to if I wish to work there. Then if the union strikes, even if I’m happy I have to walk out too. Bye bye 9 an hour, hello 6 dollars a week. If I stay on the job, I can be outted from the union, meaning I will lose my job when the strike ends. To make this better, the union here convinced the baggers to strike over the objections of the older workers (young workers outnumber the older people), to get more health benefits. After 6 months of striking (goodbye income), the workers had to slink back without health care AT ALL. Since the strike ended, the union called it a victory and raised dues. So now, the employees get less a month, and pay the unions more.

They’re like leeches…they just keep sucking til youre dead.

Something I got in an email from a friend.

    Interesting.

As the CFO of a business that employees 140 people, I have resigned
myself to the fact that Barrack Obama is our next President, and that our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way.

To compensate for these increases, I figure that our customers will have to see an increase in our prices of about 8%.

However, since we cannot increase prices right now due to the dismal state of our economy, we will have to lay off six of our employees instead.

This has really been eating at me, as we believe we are family here and I didn’t know how to choose who will have to go.

So, this is what I did. I walked through our parking lot and found 6 Obama bumper stickers on our employees’ cars and have decided these folks will be the first to be laid off.

I can’t think of a more fair way to approach this problem. These folks wanted change; I gave it to them.

If you have a better idea, let me know.

    Sincerely,

    Your Former Boss

Rezistik, his policies helped delay recovery for decades. His policy of giving unions monopoly status began to nationalize private enterprise. Unions then went on to threaten, murder and intimidate men, women, children and even pets. Now “he” wants to take away free exercise of the ballot box.

Actually pcND, I think you may be right. I was thinking the same thing for a while now. Republicans aren’t going to be able to stop much, if anything they want, even if Coleman and Chambliss get in. And the Indep. will go D. Lieberman has to, whether he likes it or not. O has him by the short-hairs.
