Massachusetts Would Like You To Register Your Knife

From the text of some legislation currently making its way through the Massachusetts legislature:

For purposes of this section, “machete” means “a heavy knife at least 18 inches in length and having a blade at least 1.5 inches wide at its broadest measurement. This subsection shall not apply to carrying a machete on one’s person or in a vehicle if the machete is carried for the purpose of cutting vegetation or if the machete is being transported for the purpose of cutting vegetation. In a prosecution of a violation of this subsection, there shall be a permissible inference that such carrying of a machete is not for the purposes of cutting vegetation. Such presumption may be rebutted.
Any individual who requires a machete for the purposes of cutting vegetation shall register the machete with the local police department on an annual basis and, upon payment of an appropriate annual registration fee as determined by the local granting authority, shall be issued a permit authorizing him to possess the machete solely for the purposes of cutting vegetation.

Next up: Permits for things like forks, razor blades and highly-sharpened pencils.

Bat one… Can’t argue with that! John Kerry only shows up for the big publicity issues. I wonder if J Kerry can count with his hoofs?

Bat One said, They could even become economically self-sufficient by charging admission to go out to Martha’s Vineyard and look at the windmills from Walter Cronkite’s front porch or the Kennedy family compound.

Windmills? Surely you jest. Kennedy is killing that idea. Windmills would ruin his view.

What about Teddy Kennedy’s broken liquor bottles?

I have had local cops on the Cape give me a hard time about carrying a Buck110 on my belt. Good thing they did not know about the Emerson CQC9 or Kershaw springlok I carry too, they would have become very soggy and hard to light I’m sure.

It is exactly this sort of mindless stupidity that makes me think how much better off the rest of the  country would be if we could just seal the borders to the state of Massachusetts, and turn it into some sort rustic internment camp for liberals.  They could even become economically self-sufficient by charging admission to go out to Martha’s Vineyard and look at the windmills from Walter Cronkite’s front porch or the Kennedy family compound.

After all, FDR, that grand Pooh-bah of Democratic liberalism did it to Japanese-American citizens during WWII.  Why can’t we now do the same thing to those who present a real threat to the rest of the country, if only by their sheer inanity?  Besides, if Ted Kennedy and John Kerry weren’t allowed out to attend to the business of the US Senate, I promise no one would ever know the difference.

    Zsa-Zsa,

Quite possibly, but on the other hand we’ve had 20 years to notice John Kerry’s absence, and it really doesn’t seem to have made much difference to anyone, even those who keep sending him.

Notice that this lets you register a machete, so you can carry one.  Our knives are already strictly non-transportable.

Bat one… We might notice how nice it would be without Teddy?
