Good for him!  Was he in one of those “no gun zones” !  We had a woman who did about the same.  She was given hero(ine) status in the newspapers.  I wonder, will he be sued?  Will the “community” rise up and demand his lynching?  The moral correctness of his behavior must be validated.

Someone is breaking into your home with not good intentions and the 911 operator takes time to ask a number if irrevalent questions before sending help.  One more example of why you should be armed for self-defense.

docdave.  What started as a good idea (911) has now been perverted into false and misleading calls.  You would not believe all the stupid calls these people get.  I thought this responder was a little above average from what I have heard in large cities.  Does anyone know where this call was placed?

docdave ... would you rather her hang up and 911 not know to send an ambulance? It could have been the husband that was shot. It is standard practice to have the caller remain on the line as long as possible.

But hey, the job of a crook does possess some risk and I am sure this intruder was well aware of them ... if not, he is now!
LOL, I had to smile/giggle at this statement.

Walter Hudson said he didn’t know what type or how many guns his father kept in the home. He said he’s concerned about his parents’ welfare.
“I’m just glad everybody is all right,” he said. “I’m very concerned.”

(considering there is the guy with the bullet in his head) smile

Nice shooting!

anna, you misread my comments.  I never said that sending help, police and/or ambulance, was a bad thing.  What I criticized was the seemingly endless questions BEFORE the help was committed.  Chief, I understand that 911 gets a lot of crank calls but I think the filtering can be done after the police has been dispatched as the aid can always be rescinded.  Also an experienced 911 operator should be able to distinguish crank calls from real emergencies from the nature of the callers language and attitude.  Listening to the conversation on the tape, there should be no doubt from the womans plea that this was a real emergency.

Very fortunate that her husband had a gun or they might have all been dead or seriously wounded before the police arrived at the scene.

docdave, (normally) Police assistance was dispatched as soon as he repeated her address. Ambulance assistance was dispatched as soon as he was told there was an injury. 911 dispatchers are required to type the info while receiving and then forwarding it to the appropriated responder and then keeping the caller online depending on the situation. I agree the call does sound lame but it’s possible that all steps were satisfactory for this persons position.

Anna, that’s my understanding too… Namely, the police are dispatched as soon as the address is received and verified. The other information about the occupants in the house was for the occupants protection.  And of course, the 911 operator was trying to keep the lady on the phone.  Standard MO there…
