Man Sues Apple For Not Protecting Him From Porn

A man who thinks the “biological sensibilities of a male” are being attacked by “cyber beauties” is suing Apple for not selling their products with a porn filter. To his mind, Apples users who want to see porn on their devices should have to “sign a form acknowledge [sic] the ills of pornography, and receive a code to remove the filter.”

According to his 50-page complaint, Apple is responsible for creating discord in his marriage by not protecting him from porno:

The Plaintiff became totally out of synch in his romantic relationship with his wife, which was a consequence of his use of his Apple product. The Plaintiff began desiring, younger more beautiful girls featured in porn videos than his wife, who was no longer 21. His failed marriage caused the Plaintiff to experience emotional distress to the point of hospitalization. The Plaintiff could no longer tell the difference between internet pornography and tangible intercourse due to the content he accessed through the Apple products, which failed to provide him with warnings of the dangers of online pornography whatsoever.

We can all have a good laugh at the guy blaming everyone but himself for neglecting his wife in favor of “cyber beauties,” but while we laugh we should remember that this attitude is a lot more prevalent in our society than we’d like to admit.

Because there are a lot of people who think we need the government to protect us from ourselves. And that’s what this guy is asking for. He doesn’t want Apple to provide voluntary porn filters. He wants the courts to mandate default porn filters, and if he wins (an unlikely scenario, thankfully), it wouldn’t just be Apple getting the filters.

This guy reminds me of every person who wants large-sized sodas or cigarettes or fatty foods banned or restricted to protect us from ourselves. He reminds me of every “family” group that wants television violence and sex censored, because they don’t want to change the channel.

We laugh at the guy who needs Apple to stop him from surfing porn on his iPad, and yet his thinking is really just a few steps beyond what is mainstream thought for millions of Americans.
