Making Data Conform To Theory
Ace says that is what’s going on with global warming:
Imagine you sought to establish global warming was occurring. An empirically minded scientist would imagine that actual, reliable global temperature records were the best evidence for whether this was occurring or not, and that the theory of global warming would be adjusted, modified, proven or proven false on the basis of those temperature records.
That’s what you would imagine would be the case. But what if in fact it were working the other way around? What if the theory of global warming was not being modified to better accord with actual, reliable temperature readings, but that actual, reliable temperature readings were being modified to better conform with the theory of global warming?
This isn’t at all surprising once you consider that global warming has been co-opted by most of the world’s leftist leaders not because they actually care about the environment (though some undoubtedly do) but rather because it provides a vehicle through which to expand the size of government and thus control over our lives. Think about it: What part of your life doesn’t impact global warming (according to folks like Al Gore)? When you heat your home you emit carbon. When you drive your car you emit carbon. When you turn on your computer you use electricity which likely comes from a fossil-fuel-driven power plant which emits carbon.
Hell, when you sleep you exhale, which emits CO2.
Claiming to fight global warming gives politicians and busy-body bureaucrats the means to tell you what kind of car you can drive, what kind of house you can live in and generally what kind of activities you can engage in. It’s all-encompassing. The perfect excuse for your local commissar-wannabe to get his/her tentacles into every aspect of your life.
Which is why the global warming crowd doesn’t really care if the data supporting their pseudo-religion doesn’t add up. It’s not really about the warming, it’s about controlling your life.
