Machine Gun Fundraiser
Sounds like a good time…
BOSTON (Reuters) - A planned Republican fundraiser in New Hampshire aims to promote gun ownership in America by letting supporters fire powerful military-style weapons—from Uzi submachine guns to M-16 rifles.
The Manchester Republican Committee is inviting party members and their families to a “Machine Gun Shoot” where, for $25 (12.12 pounds), supporters can spend a day trying out automatic weapons, said organizer Jerry Thibodeau.
“It’s a fun day. It’s a family day,” said Thibodeau of the August 5 event. “It’s quite exciting.”
Absolutely. Of course, the local liberals aren’t happy:
Local Democrats say the event is in poor taste amid a spike in violent crime in Manchester and seeks to glorify the use of machine guns for political gain. . . .
“It is downright offensive,” Chris Pappas, the Manchester Democratic party chairman, told the Union Leader newspaper.
What’s offensive is the insinuation that a bunch of law-abiding citizen enjoying their second amendment rights has anything to do with violent crime. But then, liberals up to and including the author of this article given the inclusion of this mind-blowing line:
The right to own guns has come under heightened scrutiny since the April shooting at Virginia Tech where a gunman killed 32 people.
...tend to see guns as the problems in society. Not, you know, criminals.
The left talks about “rights” like a “living wage,” abortion and health care—none of which appears in the Constitution. But start talking about gun ownership, which is explicitly allowed for in the Constitution under the 2nd amendment, and suddenly it’s a right needing “scrutiny.” That is, if they’re actually calling it a right instead of a privilege.
