Lindsey Graham: Filibuster Of Alito Will Not Stand

Awesome.

Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, fired back Sunday, saying that if the Democrats staged a filibuster against Judge Alito or Judge Luttig because of their conservatism, "the filibuster will not stand."

Grahm was a member of the "gang of 14" who instigated a compromise to avoid a Democrat filibuster on some of Bush's earlier, non-SCOTUS judicial nominations.

It looks like, as far as Graham is concerned, there will be no compromises this time around. Either the Democrats give Alito an up-or-down vote or the nuclear option will be in play.

Let's hope some of Graham's fellow "gang of 14" members agree.

I was actually looking forward to this fight in the Seante after McCain’s gang of 14 as they’ve come to be known started trying to strong arm Dubya on his nominations.  Let’s throw down.  UPDATE: SayAnything has Lindsey Graham, Gang of 14 member, agreeing to go nuclear for Alito. That’s awesome.

[...] Samuel Alito is President Bush’s new nominee to sit on the Supreme Court. This is the type of guy that President Bush promised us when he was running for President. I’ll provide more information about him and President Bush’s decision, along with the reaction from Sen. Conrad later today when I have more time.I believe that Alito was confirmed with a unanimous voice vote in 1990.UPDATE: Here is a profile of Judge Alito. Here is the list of Democrats, still in office, that voted for Alito’s confirmation to the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals. Yes, Sen. Conrad is on this list.Member of the Gang of 14 says that a filibuster against Judge Alito will NOT stand. Great news.Call Senator Conrad today and tell him to vote “Yes” on the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito. [...]

The Demoncrats got away with filibustering lesser judicial appointments because the public doesn’t pay that much attention.

However the Supreme Court is a different matter.  Ultimately if they can’t really find an issue that resonates with the public (ie:  he hates children) the Democrats are going to be remembered as just plain obstructionists.
