Liberals And Their Happy Place

Jeff Goldstein:

...Iraq war critics have started to pretend that the threat from al Qaeda doesn’t exist, and instead spend the majority of their time poking their sticks into the sides of those who aren’t quite so sanguine about al Qaeda’s intentions.

Of course, the irony here is that you’d think this would work the other way around: the Bush Kultists, so confident in their flight-suited superhero’s power to cowboy up and protect us all from harm with his nuclear-strapped utility belt and army of super soldiers, would fear nothing from the feeble and impotent robed bluster of a tiny network of bearded hyper-fundamentalist Islamist cranks.

And yet, it seems those who claim to despise Bush are secretly so confident in him and his administration ("hell, when that man says he’s gonna invade a country, by God he does it—none of this feckless, furrow-browed Jimmy Carter bullshit!") that it is they who regard 911 as a lucky blow. And now that Dear Leader is in charge, there’s simply no way al Qaeda could hit us with anything dangerous like bioweapons. Not under Dubya’s steely watch! And most certainly not with Swinging Dick Cheney second in command!

Or maybe it’s just that they’d rather not think about the implications of a bio attack. Which, hey, I can understand that. Sometimes children like to close their eyes and go to their happy place...

Pretty pointless rant. What point are you/he trying to make?

Love this part:

Seems Tbogg is really committed to this “neo-con bedwetter” trope --so much so, in fact, that he and his fellow Iraq war critics have started to pretend that the threat from al Qaeda doesn’t exist, and instead spend the majority of their time poking their sticks into the sides of those who aren’t quite so sanguine about al Qaeda’s intentions.

Goldstein provides no evidence that "Iraq war critics" have ever claimed that Al Qaeda does not exist,  neither will he be able to.

One of the commenters challenges some of Goldstein’s propositions and -surprise!- he’s denounced as "anti-american". You guys on the right have a real persecution complex when it comes to anyone being critical of your party’s leader.

I’ll say this again: the vast majority of people on the left wholeheartedly backed the President in action in Afghanistan. That is indisputable.

What your friend Mr. Goldstein shys away from admitting is that Iraq and Al Qaeda were two separate issues before Bush’s invasion. But not anymore.

I think what we have here is a certain cognizance of those on the right that, since things aren’t going so well in Iraq, with the outcome predicted by the despised "leftists" to be far more accurate than the rosy picture envisioned by the right, that now the attempt is to bash the left with accusations of  shying away from fighting Al Qaeda.

Which is, of course, bullshit.

Goldstein doesn’t have to provide evidence of that since he didn’t say it. He said that some "Iraq war critics have started to pretend that the threat from al Qaeda doesn’t exist".

One of the commenters challenges some of Goldstein’s propositions and -surprise!- he’s denounced as "anti-american".

Where? I don’t see the comment nor the commenter you are referring to. Could you link to it to provide evidence?

You guys on the right have a real persecution complex when it comes to anyone being critical of your party’s leader.

For you to comment here at this blog for months and then say this is both insulting and ignorant. You must not pay attention to the posts that go up here at this blog or you must not have simple reading comprehension because plenty of criticism is directed at our "party’s leader".

I’ll say this again: the vast majority of people on the left wholeheartedly backed the President in action in Afghanistan. That is indisputable.

This doesn’t apply to the current discussion.

What your friend Mr. Goldstein shys away from admitting is that Iraq and Al Qaeda were two separate issues before Bush’s invasion. But not anymore.

It’s not what Goldstein believes, so he’s not "shying away" from anything. We are in a war against terrorism. Iraq and Al Qaeda certainly fit the bill.

Yes it is bullshit. It’s your bullshit mcair.
