Liberal Spin Emerges On Dorgan/Abramoff Controversy

Bismarck Democrats:

So, the person who "broke" the story of an alleged connection between Abramoff and Senator Byron Dorgan turns out to be....

A Republican lobbyist? Surprise surprise. And he chose to leak the story to the AP instead of to the FBI (who is investigating Abramoff)? And his name is "Jimmy Faircloth Jr."? But the AP is inconsisting in reporting his name as "Jimmy Fairchild"? And he's a consistent contributor to Republicans?

Couldn't possibly be any stink on this story, could there?

Right. So the fact that Faircloth supports Republicans and the AP reported his name wrong clearly exonerates Dorgan from all wrong-doing. It totally refutes the fact that Dorgan a) took money from Abramoff clients b) took political action agreeable to those clients and c) has been less than forthcoming about his relationship to Abramoff.

Give me a break.

At the very least Dorgan needs to step down from his position in the Congressional investigation into this matter, and I'm not so certain that Dorgan shouldn't get some scrutiny in this investigation.

Why is this a big deal? Nobody but you and the taking back ND guys care about this. You are trying to turn it into a controversy and nobody cares.

When the media finally started covering this last week (It broke in the Washington Post March 1), Byron Dorgan started to worry.
