Liberal Groups Running Ads Targeting Rush Limbaugh

An interesting tactic, I guess, but I’m not sure this is going to end well for them:

Americans United For Change is featuring Rush Limbaugh in new radio ads running on WTAM in Cleveland, KXNT in Las Vegas, KKOH in Reno and KYW in Philly.
Swing state nation!
The goal, according to a spokesman for the progressive group, is to turn GOP votes in favor of Pres. Obama’s stimulus plan.
The spots echo new TV ads launched by the group today in ME, NH, IA and AK, targeting those states’ Republican members.

Allah at Hot Air says this is an attempt to hang Limbaugh around the necks of Republicans:

All part of the coordinated attempt I mentioned yesterday to crown Limbaugh leader of the party so they can hang his “I hope he fails” comment around the neck of the entire GOP. The idea, of course, is to reframe Republican opposition to The One’s agenda as a product of mindless obstructionist partisanship rather than a principled objection to a piece-of-shinola bill.

Here’s the ad:

If there’s anything Limbaugh is good at it’s making his critics look like fools. Singling him out is only an invitation for him to single you out. For three hours a day. For an audience of tens of millions.
Plus, singling him out only solidifies his place at the head of the opposition movement that Democrats and Obama will have to face. While that might look unappetizing to the beltway, country club Republicans who view Limbaugh as a little more than a low-brow bomb thrower good only for entertaining the plebes in the bottom ranks of the right, it’s worth remember that it is the leadership of those very Republicans that has led the GOP to where it is now.
We could do a lot worse than Rush Limbaugh when it comes to leading an opposition to Obama and the majority Democrats. And I’m not sure we could do much better.

Rush is dangerous because he preaches freedom and small government.

Just look at those who are threatened. Listen to their complaints. It says it all.

  • Hannitized

The use of open primary crossover voting is time-honored – by both parties, and is essentially no different from Obama publicly encouraging Republicans to vote for him last fall,

That is disingenuous at best. Obama had meant for them to switch parties and vote for him the through the entire election process.

Rush’s intent is to have Repubs switch not because he honestly wanted them to vote for Hillary. That is a disgrace to this great nation, no matter who did it. Please link me to the accusations you made of Boortz.

I am not denying what you say about Boortz, but I never heard anything about it either.

And two wrongs don’t make a right.

Besides, why are Rush’s thoughts and opinions any more worthy of censure than yours… or mine.

Who said anything about censure? I say put this guy in the light of day and hang him around the Republicans neck like you guys do Mike Moore.

Nobody is talking censure here, just to give Rush the proper recognition he deserves. He is hurting you guys and you don’t know it.

I understand he keeps a certain base happy, but the world is changing….in my opinion. We will see how it works out. He could last…he could be marginalized.

Personally, the damage I feel his causing to our country is detrimental to our success as a country, so I want him to fail, not be censured.

The problem is the sycophants and droolers who take his word as gospel.

I disagree. Rush’s listeners know what he’s about, know how to separate the satire from the sentience. Its his detractors, the oh-so-sanctimonious liberals, the ones who practice their democracy and diversity and inclusiveness by trying to shut off those who disagree, that haven’t a clue what Rush is really about, who can’t tell when he is deadly serious and when he is deadly satirical.

Libs don’t get it, but what else is new?

Limbaugh is popular because people like what he says.

Too bad we can’t find candidates with spine for us to vote for.

I filed the following complaint with the BBB (the FTC site is under maintenance) under the ‘truth in advertising’ requirements (for what it is worth).

Americans united for change is running an audio advertisement seeking to get support for President Obama’s stimulus spending package which will be paid for by every tax payer myself included. This ad portrays the house republicans as obstructionists who want the President to fail because Rush Limbaugh said so himself (although they have taken him out of context). They fail to mention that 11 democrats also voted against the President’s proposal. They say that every republican member voted with Limbaugh, but Limbaugh is not a member of congress nor does he have a vote. The ad accuses republicans of partisanship but again, only the ‘no’ votes were shared by both republicans and democrats. This ad is dishonest, deceptive, and seeks to gain support for a bill that I will have a part in paying for should it pass.

“Amateurish” is a generous assessment. Gibbs was completely undone by a bunch of WH reporters who were nowhere near as combative and belligerent as during Mr. Bush’s tenure. Gibbs didn’t have a clue, and from the looks of things, neither do his masters.

Its beginning to look like the only Obama administration officials who are actually ready for prime time are Bob Gates, a Bush holdover, and Hillary Clinton! The rest of Team Obama looks more like scrubs than the varsity.

The problem isnt really Rush, he is just an entertainer. He does what he does. The problem is the sycophants and droolers who take his word as gospel. The reason Rush is funny is because he usually has a GRAIN of truth in what he says. The problem is that his droolers dont know the difference between satire and reality, and they dont recognize the hypocrisy of worshipping Rush while deriding guys like Bill Maher or Keith Olbermann, who have a similarly devoted/sycophantic following. These people will always be around, and if Rush were gone, they would just find another hero to slobber over. Sheep must be lead.
Rush Limbaugh has every right to say what he wants. His right to say what he wants is more important than the damage he might do with that right.
That said, The GOP would be well served to distance themselves from Rush before he runs off the last of the moderates and intellectuals the party needs if they have any chance at all of reversing the current decline in membership and voting muscle. 20 million listeners makes him rich, but it wont win any elections anytime soon. The demographics they are achangin’.

    BUT WAIT _ – - theres more

this is like some intricate nest of spiders out there……

Change America Now (CAN), led by Americans United For Change, USAction and Campaign for America’s Future, is a:

national campaign effort being mounted by nearly forty groups in thirty one states to pass through Congress the economic elements of the 100 Hour legislative agenda as outlined by Speaker Pelosi in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Known as the CAN 100 Hour Agenda, Change America Now has supported legislation during the first 100 legislative hours in the House of Representatives in early January to: increase the minimum wage, lift the prohibition on Medicare negotiating with pharmaceutical companies for lower prescription drug prices as part of the Part D prescription drug plan, cut the interest rate on student loans in half to make college more affordable and end tax breaks for big oil companies and invest new resources into alternative sources of energy.

The Change America Now campaign is dedicated to passing each element of the Can 100 Hour Agenda through the House of Representatives with large bipartisan majorities in an effort to brand what progressives and their allies in Congress are for and to build momentum to pass these issues through a closely divided Senate and have them signed into law by the President.

By attacking Rush, the Dems and Obama are attacking “free speech”, something that the left wants to get rid of. If you don’t like Rush, learn how to turn the knob on the radio.

  • Hannitized

    BatOne,

The damage Rush has done to this country I don’t think anyone has attempted to measure, but there are certainly plenty of examples that illustrate just how dangerous and destructive this man can be.

Most recently we have the situation where he undermined the spirit of democracy by encouraging voters to break the spirit of the law when he encouraged Republicans to cross party lines in order to vote for Hillary, as opposed to Obama in the primaries. Weather or not it counts as voter fraud is another matter. That is for legal scholars.

But the fact of the matter is, Ruch Limbaugh undermined one of the most sacred and fundamental civil rights in our country. That is extremely dangerous.

Then you have the matter of how much damage he has caused with his inaccurate portrayals of what is happening in the political system and poisoning the minds of conservatives in this country. This damage is hard to measure and destructive to say the least.

I think when our country is in such bad shape, the last thing we need are people like Rush. He needs to put himself on a time out.

  • http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/entry/homosexuality_is_wrong_-_a_compendium move_zig

    That’s odd,

I don’t recall any Leftards feeling bad about crossing party lines during the late 1980′s, when they swamped Virginia’s primaries to make sure the true Conservatives never even made it to the ballot.

Lord knows how many other open primary states saw Leftist sabotage of the voting system (not to mention ACORN’s vote-if-you’re dead, illegal, from out of state, a felon, numerous times or simply don’t exist, hijinks)

Rush was simply tearing a page out of the Leftist playbook.

They can dish it out, but they sure can’t take it.

  • bill-tb

Rush is good at what he does, poke liberals in the eye and watch them dance.

  • Bat One

I think Rush has been causing too much damage to this country over the years.

    H,

Have you got any specific examples to cite of the damage Rush has caused, or is this just another of those amorphous, touchy-feely things that periodically infect liberals.

The last effort to put Rush in his place that I recall, AirAmerica was an embarrassing flop and a financial scandal too. Ms. Garafolo was last seen playing Ugly Betty’s dweeby older sister on Fox network’s hit, “24.”

Before that it was Bill Clinton who took on Maja Rushi. Clinton got impeached and Rush got a new $300 million contract.

  • Hannitized

Allah at Hot Air says this is an attempt to hang Limbaugh around the necks of Republicans:

I personally like the idea. Not sure if it will work or back-fire, but personally I think Rush has been causing too much damage to this country over the years.

It is right for the Democrats, who seek a bipartisan effort to work together, to force Republicans to either decide you are either with Rush, or you are against him.

Absolutely it is censorship. I just hink this is the begining of the push by the left to silence those who don’t agree with them.

It’s not censorship. It is an effort to marginalize him. It is about time they gave it a go.

  • Bat One

    H,

    Hyper down, kid.

Your first example, of cross-over voting is nonsense and we’re both smart enough to know it. I used to live in the district represented by the execrable Cynthia McKinney, who was finally removed by a substantial number of GOP voters crossing over to vote for Denise Majet in the open Dem primary, an effort led by Neil Boortz. The use of open primary crossover voting is time-honored – by both parties, and is essentially no different from Obama publicly encouraging Republicans to vote for him last fall, or for his so-called “stimulus/recovery” proposal now. Besides, why are Rush’s thoughts and opinions any more worthy of censure than yours… or mine. His right to express himself is no less protected than anyone else. That is, unless its the ideas themselves that some folks (like you?) find personally objectionable. But then that’s not a matter of “dangerous” is it? That’s merely a matter of stifling the rights of one man, and his listeners, for the sake of partisan advantage. Not very democratic, is it?

  • http://tatertotsforthemasses.blogspot.com/ Houston

Look for this to be the begining of the “Fairness Doctrine” push. I think that is why President Obama called him out to begin with.

Here’s info on the guy who is listed as President of AUC:

Brad Woodhouse was a prominent Democratic Party and progressive political operative.[1]

He gained widespread notice as a spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee during the early 2000s,[2][3][4] and was casually named by a Washington Post columnist as possibly “the most prolific e-mailer in politics.“[5]

In 2005, he left the DSCC to become communications director for Americans United to Protect Social Security, a group fighting the Bush Social Security plan.[5]

Following the Bush reform plan, Woodhouse organized and became president of Amercans United For Spare Change. [6] Woodhouse’s group belong to a coalition of progressive organizations called Change America Now, [6] many of which are located in the same building in Washington at 1825 K Street, N.W. The leaders of those organizations frequently meet with aides to Democratic congressional leadership, to discuss strategy and upcoming votes.[6]

Anyone see Obamas’ point man answer questions yesterday? Amateurish would best describe the session. And don’t we hear another on this tape talk of 4.5 million jobs as if it’s a given. Again when you get one of those enticements from Las Vegas or Reno just say no, and tell them their boy Harry Reid is the reason.

  • dawneyr

They are targeting him like they target Palin. They are too arrogant to consider the possibility of backfire. They talk about unity and bipartisanship, but that only means to do things their way as summed up in the phrase, “I won.” There are some things that free people shouldn’t unite on such as supporting overreaching government policies or overbearing business practices. Both are harmful.

I keep seeing posts on here from people in support of the GOP and conservative economic policy who state that government should completely back off and let the markets run themselves. The government didn’t single-handedly bring down the markets. Crapshoot lending and investing had a huge role which could’ve been minimized or even avoided for the most part had limited government stepped in and enforced laws already in place or introduced new, reasonable legislation to head off such a spiral. No economic policy is immune from the dangers of lawlessness.

To get a taste of what happens when corrupt business meets corrupt officials, take a look at the recipe mixed on Treasury pick, Geithner’s watch at the Federal Reserve. I can say from my own personal experience in dealing with Washington Mutual that I thought they were dishonest, greedy and overreaching before their acquisition by JP Morgan Chase. Also from my personal experience, my opinion is that they are now even more aggressive in their practices under the thumb of JP Morgan Chase’s Tony Blair, et al. I don’t want to unite with overbearing business or overstepping government.

    http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=87497

Rush Limbaugh appears to have offered a legitimate appeal for balance in the spirit of bipartisanship without compromising the tenants of freedom-based principles. He was slammed out of the chute for his contribution. I guess he hadn’t heard that the “one” had “won.”

  • syn

Rush is simply exposing the emotional frailty of Liberalism.

Why, in their small-minded world, do Liberals feel that only one man can save them or destroy them.

It’s always ‘the only one in the world who can save is such and such’ and ‘such and such is the only one who is destroying us’.

It is weird how Liberalism is so provincial and myopic yet Liberals are convinced they are progressive and open-minded.

All that is Liberalism is a constant state of contradiction, which likely explains the mental disease.
