Liberal Duplicity On International Policy: Illegal Immigrants Welcome, Free Trade Not

Remember back when John Kerry was running for President and the left kept telling us that President Bush and his foreign policies had made America less popular in the world?  Do you ever wonder why nobody ever talks about how protectionist, anti-free trade rhetoric from Democrats like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton might impact our nation’s international popularity?  Does anyone honestly think that it helps our relations with other countries when we have politicians running for our highest office on trade policy that seeks to block foreign interests from our markets?

And why is it that the left will open its collective arms to swarms of illegal immigrants in this country but becomes obstinate at the idea of an American saving some money on a bargain television made in another country?

Which isn’t to say that illegal immigration is a good thing.  Certainly people who come to live and work in this country should be required to either become citizens and take on all the responsibilities which go with that or required to leave.  But how can liberals say that foreign citizens taking up residence in our neighborhoods illegally is essentially ok, but foreign businesses engaging in perfectly legal commerce is not?

Seems like hypocrisy to me.

Rob.  It is called vote-buying.  You can come here and work for less than minimum wage in return, vote democrat and we will allow you to break the law and stay here.  Vote again and you can be a citizen ahead of everyone else who has been waiting years longer.

I wasn’t pro-NAFTA when Clinton signed it. But if we are going to have free trade with anyone, it should be our nearest neighbors. Canada and Mexico our buy American goods.

There’s probably more American products sold in Tijuana than in all of China.

And it’s been china that’s taken all the textile and shoe manufacturing jobs. And they are using the proceeds fromt hat trade surplus to build up their military so they can bully their neighbors and threaten us.

Why aren’t Hillary and Obama talking about what our trade deficit with China is doing?

Maybe it’s because a lot of Democrat fundraisers and politicians are heavily invested in companies that import Chinese products.

Excellent analogy. Put another way, the liberals would much rather give away benefits (to illegals) then encourage entrepreneurs in other countries to provide a workplace for individuals.

The same applies to the methods by which Democrats choose to fight global poverty.
