Giuliana Sgrena is a liar.

BAGHDAD – The friendly fire shooting at a U.S. military checkpoint last month in Baghdad wounded Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena and killed intelligence agent Nicola Calipari.
Now, NBC News has learned that a preliminary report from a joint U.S.-Italian investigation has cleared the American soldiers of any wrongdoing and provides new details into the shooting.
Intelligence agent Calipari had just negotiated Sgrena’s release from Iraqi kidnappers on March 4 when the two and a driver headed for the Baghdad airport in a compact rental car.
It was dark when the Italians turned onto a ramp leading to the airport road where the U.S. military had set up a temporary checkpoint.
The investigation found the car was about 130 yards from the checkpoint when the soldiers flashed their lights as a warning to stop. But the car kept coming and, at 90 yards, warning shots were fired. At 65 yards, when the car failed to stop, the soldiers used lethal force –

You really are a simple creature, aren’t you? Anything that smears America is all you see or hear. Italian military SOP on security checkpoints in hostile enviroments is FAR and away more agressive than ours. As for this particular situation, they paid ransom to secure the release of this”person”, for the third time. Twice before this”person” has been taken”hostage” by unnamed Islamic groups, groups that this”person” supports wholeheartedly. She has written articles stating that the people of mid-eastern countries deserve to be ruled by the terrorist groups because these groups are fighting against the “bourgeois capitalist enemies of humanity”. Now, your support of this”person” is based on what, exactly? And don’t start crying and whining, research her work. Not the pre-translated drivel, get it in Italian and translate direct. While you are at it, do the same with the statements from the leaders of Syria,Iran,France,Germany, and Russia. Don’t just read the prepared stories, get a translate package and see the difference between what media sources report they say and what they actually say. I know,I know, it involves actually reading and thinking for yourself. That is the price you pay for being informed, not indoctrinated.

The msnbc story does not mention that the Italians are disputing the report. The Italians are still being denied access to examine the car involved in the incident.

It seems from the reports they got shot for coming too close to American troops
at a temporay night chekckpoint.
Four seconds seems to be the amount of time alloted to recognize your situation, react correctly or die.

Those calculations have a high rate of error because “about 4 seconds” could mean 3 or it could mean 5. 3 seconds would make it more like 45 mph, 5 seconds would make it more like 25 (rough calcs, no number crunching). But yeah, if that 4 second number is “about” correct and the speed war roughly 30-40

So they should not have fired on the vehicle that refused to stop at a checkpoint on what YOUR media labeled”the road of death”, so named for the abundance of carbombs. Simlpy because it was only doing 35. Sorry, speed is not the relevent point here. Failure to respond to the instructions at a military checkpoint is relevent. Also, you should investigate what the Italian military’s SOP is in the same circumstance.

At 390 ft lights flashed.
At 270 ft warning shots,
At 195 ft lethal machine gun fire.
4 seconds go by, car travels 195 ft.
Car is traveling about 49 ft a second, about 35 miles an hour.
