Lefties Use Obama’s New Local Service Website To Promote Event Celebrating Iraqi Shoe Thrower

Your tax dollars, hard at work:

Colin Powell held a press conference in Washington, D.C., on Friday, touting the launch of Barack Obama’s new website, USAService.org, which allows Americans to find—and to promote—local service opportunities that are searchable by zip code.

President Bush’s former Secretary of State said he was on the site this morning and vouched for its usefulness.

But here’s betting that Powell didn’t have time to go through all of the events on it.

Wanting to see how the website works, I typed in my hometown zip code in Los Angeles to find events within a 10 mile radius.

It pointed me to several events including a blood drive, a graffiti clean-up, and an “Obama Celebration and Bush Shoe Toss.”

The event, which was listed as a “Day of Service - January 19,” is taking place at the soon-to-open Carnivale Café on the corner of Vermont and Normal.

“Come Celebrate with us” wrote Gilbert Gazan, 46, in the event’s description. “Say good bye to old Georgie . . . Throw a shoe at poster of Bush and win a free drink.”

The Obama camp says this isn’t their fault, because they don’t vet who uses the site for what:

Other than doing a “very cursory” review of the site on occasion to make sure there are no “glaringly inappropriate” events on the site, the Presidential Inaugural Committee is “not vetting the groups that are offering service opportunities or the individuals that are offering service opportunities or the people who want to participate,” according to Linda Douglass, the committee’s chief spokesperson.

“This is a hub,” said Douglass. “It is very much like CraigsList, matching up individuals and groups who want to participate with opportunities to serve.”

That’s an adequate explanation.  I certainly don’t think Obama or his people are endorsing this event, and I would hope they’re not any more happy with the Iraqi shoe-thrower than they would be with someone tossing things at Obama’s head, but I wonder…if this new site is “like CraigsList,” what do we need it for?  Why is it costing us tax dollars?

We already have a CraigsList.  And a Facebook.  And a MySpace.  And a myriad of other social networking websites both large and small, global and local, that organizations can use to draw attention to their events and service opportunities without costing the taxpayers any money.

As usual, big-government liberals like Obama think that government can and/or should do things the private sector is already doing.  And doing better than the government ever could.

Sounds like a great event that could be held in every small town bar across North Dakota on January 19th!

Count me in!

They’d be throwing things at you in most of them.

You ain’t really North Dakotan, are you, Rob?

I addressed the issue of your post.  You turned it around to me.  Your logic faux pas would indicate a less than North Dakota education.  However, we welcome everyone to our fine state.

In other words, you would have said something about how throwing shoes at a poster of Bush would offend some closed-minded North Dakota rednecks, rather than state something toward me.  Instead you chose to address the messenger rather than the message.

I’m not being critical of you, Rob.  I’m just pointing out a short-coming of the logic you present.

Peace…

I like the picture of Hussein Obama on this post. Even he realizes he doesn’t know what the fuck he’s doing!

That shoe-thrower is a hero! He did what many red-blooded Americans want to do. George is such a selfish loon. He is so narcissistic that he actually thinks he did nothing wrong. Way to go, George.

We like it here! We like it here! You’re fuckin’ A we like it here.

I’ve been a North Dakotan since the fourth grade.

And your rather bizarre use of “faux pas” (not to mention the incorrectly used form of the word “logic”) would indicate someone who shouldn’t be casting stones about intelligence.

Not that I’m a spelling and grammar nitpicker.  It’s just that whole thing about those who live in glass houses…

And if North Dakota is a state filled with close-minded rednecks, why not move?  I’m sure San Francisco would love to have you, and isn’t that the beauty of living in a federalist democracy like ours?  If you don’t like the way things are where you’re at, you can always move!

The comment by ollie-B, albeit profane, goes to the issue of the post, rather than to those who post comments.  This is what argument and debate are about.  Those who cannot support an issue without attacking the commenter have conceded the debate.  Amen.

Rugby, you confused buffoon, you come out and insult the level of my education and then get all sanctimonious about staying on topic and not insulting other readers?

Seriously.  Grow up.

Sir, you are the one who has some growing to do.

Again, the name calling belies your true character apparently.  I’m just sayin’.

Right.  And you’re one to lecture about online insults.

Anyway, after you’re earlier jab at my intelligence, I have to chuckle at your use of “belies.”  Because it doesn’t mean what you think it means.

You used it as if it meant “reveals,” but it really means “misrepresents.”  So you told me my name-calling misrepresents my true character.

Which isn’t really what you meant at all.

Open up a thesaurus and try again, genius.

If your “point” was that you need a remedial course in grammar, you’re absolutely right.

Point taken.

Barack Obama, spending 20 years in Jeremiah Wright’s church, listening to anti-white hatred day after day does not qualify him to be president of the United States.
Barack Obama, someone who believes in murdering helpless unborn babies by abortion should not be president.
Barack Obama who believes in desecrating Holy Matrimony by allowing sodomites to blaspheme God by getting married should not be president
Your support makes you as guilty before God as he is.
SAY THIS PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and am headed to eternal hell because of my sins. I believe you died on the cross to take away my sins and to take me to heaven. Jesus, I ask you now to come into my heart and take away my sins and give me eternal life. http://www.armyofgod.com

He doesn’t know.

One moment he’s an Al Franken supporter.  The next he’s a Ron Paul guy.

One moment he’s a proud Marine.  The next moment he’s telling kids not to join the military.

One moment he’s insulting people.  The next moment he’s getting self-righteous about insults.

One moment, North Dakota bars would make good venues for Bush-themed shoe-throwing contests.  The next North Dakotans are close-minded rednecks because a lot of them probably wouldn’t take too kindly to such events (whether they like Bush or not).

Rugby is pretty much worth ignoring at this point, I think.

Don Spitz:  Thanx for the contribution.  However, your theology is incongruous and misguided.  We don’t go to hell if we accept Jesus.  The very act of praying to Jesus leads us not into hell.  Regardless of what we do.

To bring presidential politics into religion is blasphemous at best.  Now it sounds like nothing more than the wind blowing from the northwest.

Zing!  Mister self righteous goes back to the insults!

By the way, you got that Benjamin Franklin quote wrong.  It’s really: “Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.”

But don’t worry.  Just about everyone who tries to use that quote on the internet gets it wrong, and most of them (like you) don’t understand it’s meaning or the context Franklin used it in.

Let us guess…

Rob, do you advocate and support a “Department of Homeland Security” and a “Transportation Security Agency”?

I see them both for the police state tools they are.

The DoHS is an ill-advised, bulky, inefficient new national security bureaucracy bolted on to our existing national security bureaucracy.  It’s a big mistake.  We should have fixed the problems with the CIA, etc. instead of creating a new agency.

As for the TSA (which I call “thousands standing around”), I do think we have to screen for the most obvious threats to at least keep the terrorists honest, but the way they have us all but disrobing in the airports is a little absurd.

There’s a lot of bad policy in both.  There are better ways to keep us safe.

So maybe you and I aren’t as far apart as you think.  But I’m sure you’re too busy posturing as a self-styled political outsider far above the partisan political fray to stop and think for a moment about actual policy.

Both the DHS and the TSA are unnecessay bureaucracies that were insisted on by the Democrats in Congress. GWB initially wanted to increase the requirements for the security agents hired by the airlines.

But the Democrats saw a chance to get a huge jobs program with an eye on Union membership down the road. (They initially wanted it right off the bat)

All it ended up doing was transfering the costs of security from the airlines to the passengers and taxpayers.

my wife and i go off to europe each year. TSA actually let her back in the country with the wrong boarding pass. These positions are not needed, but if they must remain, they should be filled by our military.
