Leftie Liberal Movie Lions For Lambs Is Trashed - By the Village Voice

Ya know, a left wing anti war movie has to truly suck if the Village Voice, that most left of all the left publications doesn’t like it. Not only do they not like it, here is what they have to say about it after a lengthy column leading up to this remark:

What can I tell you? The movie is awful…

Yeesh. To be fair it goes on to say that there’s something sentimentally charming about Redford’s “lack of cynicism” etc., and blah blah blah. But the bottom line is what I said in the opening…it sucks.

Hollywood just isn’t getting it. Just because they all get together and whine at their exclusive cocktail parties about Bush and Iraq and about this and that, doesn’t mean that the rest on America - those of us who live outside of the Hollywood bubble - feel the same way. Every single one of the Hollywood anti -war films about Iraq has been a dismal flop. And they still don’t get it.

Tell you what, Hollywood…..try making a movie about the heroism of our soldiers and Marines, about their guts and honor, about their courage and determination in fighting a vicious, brutal enemy and I will guarantee you’ll pack the house. I know you don’t really feel that way toward our troops but fake it - that’s what you’re good at.

Personally, I’m happy that your flagrant anti-Americanism is biting you right where it hurts the most - in your bank accounts.

Two salutes to Weasel Zippers for this one.

They obviously care more for propaganda than they care for profits.  Being socialists, social engineering through propaganda films is more important than prospering through supplying the demand.  This is why socialist economies are stagnant.

If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.

Thanks to Obama, America remains the only country where it is illegal to drill our own oil!

Tell you what, James Joyce… try writing a book about the magical exploits of a teenage wizard, and I will guarantee you the #1 spot on the New York Times bestseller list.

Sorry but….huh? That follows the article how?

Tell you what, Calvin, try addressing the issue instead of just spinning. See what happens.

davey is stuck in the same loop, it comes from all that spinning.

I read the review in WaPO and it was rather obviously the press release, not an actual review. Pretty sad when the movie reviewer from WaPO won’t even go see it.

Pil, don’t waste that cash on a movie anyway. Here ya go! Scroll through all the listings, I only checked the first column and found one copy for $13. And on audio for $40. It is well worth the time.

And speaking of stuck in a loop, this post keeps coming up in my alerts, about 5 times in a row now. Some one at Super Alerts must really not like this movie!

I can solve Hollywood’s problem with one simple word of advice:

“Don’t make movies where the good guy loses.”

Hollywood knows this of course, but unfortunately, they have forgotten who the “good guy” is.

Or maybe someone at Super Alerts doesn’t like you.

Pilgrim must have missed the boat.

The two grunts (Arian and Ernest) carried the battle; they made the movie; they demonstrated BOTH guts and honor—the three names mumbled stuff that Pilgrim wouldn’t comprehend; and the theater was still empty.
It’s 5-F**n years too late to be propoganda.
It is a bit “didactic” - BUT it’s clearly not preaching to the choir, if at this late date pilgrims are offended by history.
Not because hollywood doesn’t get it, but because simps like you don’t get it.

O Riley on November 11, 2007 at 06:26 pm

And what history would that be?

It’s victis, not victus; the difference is the dative rather than the nominative case. If the Latin is left as you cited it, it’s nonsense.

O Riley on November 13, 2007 at 10:51 am

So, O’Stupid, your point is that America is evil and Muslim terrorists are morally superior, exactly as Redford&Co have stated? Thanks for playing “How Big A Moron Can O’Stupid Be?!?!?” Fuck off.

I’m so tired of Left-wing propaganda.

I saw this movie. I also served in the military, in spite of and not because of what my professors in college used to preach. In my opinion, our “war on terror” is misdirected - it should be against the Leftists arming every lunatic fringe group in the world (in the case of Iran, with nuclear weapons), not the bunch of primitive Third World throwbacks they use as pawns against the West.

We’re apathetic to the Leftist line, not because we consider our elected leaders as “beyond redemption” but because of our unbridled disgust of the Leftist intelligensia - represented quite well by Robert Redford’s overbearing, pompous, ‘holier-than-thou’ professor character.

It’s not that we’re cynical about our government. Instead we consider San Francisco liberals and all they represent as “beyond redemption”.

If I were the student grilled in his office, I’d tell that professor that a B would dishonour me - that I would accept nothing less than an F in his miserable, sanctimonious, self-serving course, and that if he pushed me to attend I’d do “whatever it takes” to earn it. And I have the college record to prove it.

DrCruel on November 19, 2007 at 12:58 pm

Doc C, welcome to the fray, cur! You hit in the black on several levels. I have long held that had students stood up to leftist academics 25 years ago we would not be having the problems we are today. The whole"go along to get along” line of crap has done massive damage to our society and nation.

And thanks for your service, I’m sure your professors would heartily concu,,,,Oh, who the hell am I kidding! The only way they would thank you is if you joined Al Queda.

The reason the Iraq war movies fail at the box office is because nobody wants to hear about the war anymore, and most of the movies are just plain awful for other reasons. The majority of Americans (not just the Hollywood bubble) want the war to be over. It’s not about winning or losing. It’s not even about stopping terrorism anymore. If the Iraqi people wanted us to stay to stabilize their government, and they were willing to participate, I’d be all for staying. That’s not the case. It’s clear that we are not wanted, nor is our continued presence providing any benefit to the American people.
