Left Scrambles Away From Their Ties To Chavez

Is anyone else thinking that this scramble by Democrats to condemn Hugo Chavez for his comments about Bush at the UN (not to mention change the subject) is...kind of funny? It reminds me of two girls at my high school prom who wore the same dress. The one girl went off on the other girl for daring to wear the same thing as her.

That's kind of how Democrats are reacting to Chavez. They're upset at what he's saying because it kind of sounds like what they've been saying. Only this time it's coming from the mouth of a commie dictator, which kind of casts a dim light on the Democrat efforts to demonize Bush over the last several years.

And let's not forget that many on the left have a very cozy relationship with Chavez. Cindy Sheehan has said that she would rather live in Venezuela than America, and even traveled down to that country to give Chavez a big hugh and a smooch. I don't think I need to remind you that Sheehan also has close ties to Congressional Democrats.

The left's fascination with Chavez doesn't begin and end with Sheehan either. Former President Jimmy Carter certified the shameful "elections" that put Chavez into power, left-wing activist Harry "Bush Is A Terrorist" Belafonte did a fundraiser with Hillary Clinton right after a trip down to Venezuela to kiss Chavez's butt and the left was certainly falling all over itself to deify Chavez when he promised to provide certain blue states with petroleum this winter.

So excuse me if I find this Democrat reaction to Chavez a bit contrived. That commie dictator didn't say anything Bush supporters aren't already used to hearing from the American left, and before he made his comments at the UN the left certainly wasn't ashamed of their close ties to Chavez.

Maybe it's time for some in this country to reconsider the political positions they've taken that have put them on the same side as a man like Chavez.
