Leadership Experience: Palin Vs. Obama

Immediately after John McCain shocked the country and picked Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate the left was atwitter with claims that Sarah Palin isn’t experienced enough to be Vice President. Which is ironic given that their Presidnetial candidate is a half-term senator that has spent 2/3′s of his time in office campaigning.
Regardless, Red State has a comparison of the accomplishments and achievements of Barack Obama and Sarah Palin that’s worth going over in detail.
The conclusion? Sarah Palin wins hands down.

She sure looks a lot better that that pinch-faced, stuck up Cindy.

Attacking women because of how they look is what Republicans do. It adds nothing to the debate and it needs to stop.

Stating that she is the CinC of the Alaskan National Guard is proof of her military experience is laughable. I can’t find any evidence that she has ever deployed them within the state and if they are deployed oversees it is because they have been nationalized. I’m not saying she should of deployed them, if their are no disasters so much the better. But this is not experience in military matters.

    Hawk:

You’re right on this point. Basically Palin has almost no military experience, but her experience as as head of the Alaska National Guard should have given her fare more experience than anything in Obama or Biden’s resumes gave them. It’s not that Palin extremely qualified, it’s that she’s much more qualified than either Obama or Biden.

But for me, what really makes her more qualified is that she’s got real private sector experience, as a newscaster and as a commercial fisherman. She knows what it’s like to put her comfort and safety aside to make a living. She knows that people have to work hard for their money, and that it’s a real tragedy when the government wastes that money.

Niether Biden or Obama have any private sector experience. Biden has been in politics for 30 plus years, and held a public sector job before that. All he knows is that when he wants money for something, he goes to the taxpayer.

Obama never held a real job before going into politics. Every position he’s had has basically been one in politics, or trying to influence politics.

    One more thing…

Palin has a record of rooting out corruction and waste, first in her home town, later on statewide commisions, and finally as Governor as Alaska. To do that she stood up to big oil and political bosses in her own party.

Can anyone show where Obama or Biden stood up to trial lawyers or public sector unions?

    No…

They’re both in the pockets of those special interests.

That’s why I’m excited about Palin.

Glad you boys brought this up. Ask an Alaskan about their state and city government. It is full of neopotism and corruption. I’ll say one thing, though. She sure looks a lot better that that pinch-faced, stuck up Cindy.

The main qualification of a Vice President of the United States is that he or she be someone who can step in at a moment’s notice to become the leader of the free world.

Unfortunately for the Democrats, their presidential candidate is completely unqualified in that regard. Obama is a man who never held a real job before going into politics. He has no idea what it’s like to get paid for producing something usefull to society. His whole life he’s spent living off the product of other people’s toil.

Upon her selection as VP candidate, the Dems immediately called Sarah a product of Big Oil. Little did they know that she tore up an agreement formed by the previous Governor with Big Oil because she didn’t believe it provided sufficient benefit to her state. PLUS she led the effort to re-structure the Alaska State severance tax, against the wishes of
Big Oil. Now I am FOR Big oil and a strong supporter of the industry. But you’ve got to admire her guts in the face of Big Oil. There are many other examples of her leadership abilities, BUT this is my favorite. Big Oil certainly doesn’t consider her in their pocket.

I believe Governor Palin is a highly qualified person to join John McCain on the ticket as his vice presidential running mate.

She’s taken on corruption in Alaska as that state’s governor; vetoing millions of dollars in wasteful spending and pork projects. She’s even clashed with her fellow Republicans.

    This is a good choice.

  • Jim L

The governorship of a state bordering foreign nations does not qualify as foreign policy experience. If in fact she did as Governor negotiate foreign policy between her state of Alaska and Canada or Russia then she would be violating the Constitution which prohibited such powers in Article 1, Section 10, “No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation”. Foreign policy is a federal responsiblity and Governor Palen has no experience at it.

  • Wing Chun Geologist

Of the four, Palin is clearly the BEST choice for president. She’s the only one of the four with extensive private sector experience.

While both Obama and Biden are up to their eyebrows in specials interests, Palin has a background of taking on special interests, corruption and waste.

The least qualified individual on the two tickets is Barack Obama who never held a REAL JOB before going into politics.

  • palin is the worst

To be fair, the vice president’s job is a legislative post as “president of the senate.” After that, the VP plays a diplomatic role (Palin’s hardly a world traveler). Executive experience only comes into play when/if McCain dies (and we know his doctor’s aren’t counting on it any time soon).

Pawlenty, Romney, Huckabee, Hutchinson, Meg Whitman… all better choices that have been thoroughly vetted.

    I fear she’s Eagleton to McCain’s McGovern.

  • pparets

palin: Overlooking your monstrous mis-statements on Governor Sarah Palin, I will focus on your blatantly erroneous decription of the constitutional responsibilities of the Vice President.

There is no ‘diplomatic’ role whatever assigned to the office of the Vice president. The Vice President is literally a ‘president-in-waiting’ who assumes the powers of the President should he/she become incapacitated and performs such other duties as the President may assign to him/her.

The Vice President serves as President of the Senate only for the purpose of breaking a tie vote; a rare but occasionally vital function. Since the vice-president rarely comes to the senate, the office of the president pro-tem – assigned on a rotating basis to sitting senators by the majority leader – takes care of the bulk of senate’s ceremonial business.

One would hope that in the future you educate yourself before spouting inaccurate drivel on any subject, but in particular, Governor Palin.

Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell, adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard, considers Palin “extremely responsive and smart” and says she is in charge when it comes to in-state services, such as emergencies and natural disasters where the National Guard is the first responder.

But, in an interview with The Associated Press on Sunday, he said he and Palin play no role in national defense activities, even when they involve the Alaska National Guard. The entire operation is under federal control, and the governor is not briefed on situations.

Can someone please explain how exactly Obama is more qualified to be President than Palin is to be Vice President? The DNC and the MSM (but I repeat myself) keep repeating that Palin’s gig as Mayor was a part-time job.

So was Obama’s job as state legislator.

ON THE DAY HE DECLARED HIS CANDIDACY, OBAMA HAD SERVED 150 DAYS IN THE US SENATE; BEFORE THAT, HE WAS A SELF-SERVING PART-TIME STATE SENATOR

DO 150 DAYS IN THE U.S. SENATE – THE WORLD’S GREATEST DEBATING CLUB – MAKE ONE EXPERIENCED ENOUGH TO BE POTUS?

    NOPE.

WELL…. WHAT ABOUT OBAMA’S EXPERIENCE IN THE ILLINOIS STATE SENATE. HERE’S HOW THE NYTIMES SAW IT IN July 2007:

Asked why he ran for the Senate in a state where rank-and-file lawmakers have been called “mushrooms” (because they are kept in the dark and fed, uh, manure), Mr. Obama said: “Part of it was that the seat opened up. I was living in the district, and the state legislature was a part-time position. It allowed me to get my feet wet in politics and test out whether I could get something done.”

    Forming Relationships

From his days as an organizer, Mr. Obama already knew the Democratic leader, Mr. Jones, who had come up through the Democratic organization in Chicago. He had helped Mr. Obama’s group acquire state money for a dropout prevention program that still operates today.

… The new senator, Barack Obama, was a progressive Democrat in a time of tight Republican control. He was a former community organizer in a place where power is famously held by a few. He was a neophyte promising reform in a culture that a University of Illinois political studies professor describes as “really tough and, frankly, still quite corrupt.”

… Mr. Obama did not bring revolution to Springfield in his eight years in the Senate, the longest chapter in his short public life. But he turned out to be practical and shrewd, a politician capable of playing hardball to win election (he squeezed every opponent out of his first race)…

… He positioned himself early on as a protégé of the powerful Democratic leader, Senator Emil Jones, a beneficiary of the Chicago political machine.

… His critics say Mr. Obama could have accomplished much more if he had been in less of a hurry to leave the Statehouse behind. Steven J. Rauschenberger, a longtime Republican senator who stepped down this year, said: “He is a very bright but very ambitious person who has always had his eyes on the prize, and it wasn’t Springfield. If he deserves to be president, it is not because he was a great legislator.”

… When the Democrats took control of the State Senate in 2003 — and Mr. Jones replaced James Philip, known as Pate, a retired Pepperidge Farm district manager who served as president of the Senate — Mr. Obama made his next move.

“He said to me, ‘You’re now the Senate president,’ ” Mr. Jones recalled. ” ‘You have a lot of power.’ I said, ‘I do?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ I said, ‘Tell me what kind of power I have.’ He said, ‘You have the power to make a U.S. senator.’ I said, ‘I do?’ He said, ‘You do.’ I said, ‘If I’ve got that kind of power, do you know of anyone that I can make?’ He said, ‘Yeah. Me.’ ”
    FACT RECAP:

AS STATE SENATOR, OBAMA DIDN’T TAKE ON THE CORRUPT ILLINOIS MACHINE OR THE CORRUPT COOK COUNTY MACHINE OR THE CORRUPT CHICAGO MACHINE.
HE PLAYED BALL WITH THEM TO ADVANCE HIS OWN PERSONAL AMBITION – ACCORDING TO THE NYTIMES.
AND, AS OBAMA TOLD THE NYTIMES (see above), BEING AN ILLINOIS STATE SENATOR IS ONLY A PART-TIME JOB; THE STATE SENATE IS IN SESSION ONLY A FEW MONTHS A YEAR.
THAT’S NOT MUCH TO BRAG ABOUT. AND IT HARDLY QUALIFIES HIM TO BE POTUS.

    LET’S COMPARE THAT TO PALIN:
PALIN TOOK ON A DEFEATED THE CORRUPT ALASKA MACHINE – UNSEATING THE STATE’S GOVERNOR, WHO WAS IN HER OWN PARTY!

HAVING SERVED 350 DAYS AS GOVERNOR – A FULL-TIME, HIGH-PROFILE TOTALLY ACCOUNTABLE JOB, (AND YEARS AS A MAYOR AN CITY COUNCIL MEMBER) – MAKES HER IS MORE QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT THAN OBAMA.
BOTTOM-LINE: IN ADDITION TO NOT BEING QUALIFIED BY EXPERIENCE, OBAMA’S KOWTOWING TO THE CORRUPT MACHINERY IN CHICAGO AND ILLINOIS MAKES HIM MORALLY UNFIT FOR THE OFFICE.

    VOTE ACCORDINGLY.

  • henri

sarah palin is nothing more than a political harlot…they’ve dressed her in a tight skirt, sexy specs, and put on the campaign corner to lure women voters. get real.

  • Bat One

Foreign policy is a federal responsiblity [sic] and Governor Palen [sic] has no experience at it.

Of course, Barack Obama has even less such experience than Palin, and it is arguable that neither Joe Biden or John McCain has any either.

Attacking VP candidate Palin for her lack of foreign policy experience wouldn’t be nearly so stupid a tactic if the Democrats’ presidential candidate, Barack Obama, had any sort of foreign policy or even executive experience. He has neither.

Jim, if you’re gonna shoot yourself in the foot, its probably a good idea to first remove it from your mouth.

I really don’t care that Sarah Palin is a very attractive woman with a handsome husband. Nor do I care that she has an unwed daughter with a child. I do care about her cronyism and possibility that she might have vendettas. She lacks experience in military and foreign affairs. She has a thing for power and being the center of attention. She prefers power over truth.

There’s a reason that Obama shut down campaign attacks on Palin last
night. All attacks on her backfire. Consider…

-She lacks experience (so does Obama…their lead dog…Indeed she has
more executive experience than either Obama or Biden)
-She is too much an outsider (wasn’t Obama calling for change)
-She’s just going after the woman vote (and Hillary was…what,
exactly…and why shouldn’t a woman be VP) Wasn’t that what we
praised Hillary for accomplishing this last week?)
-She is more of the same (as a party reformer that took on her own
    party?)
-She was mayor of a smaller town (small town people are not good
    enough?)
-She was a beauty pagent contestant (so pretty women are bad?)

Pretty much any attack they launch against her will backfire against
themselves. Even Biden beating her in a debate won’t be a victory for
her…all she has to do is play the woman-victim card that Hillary
used in the debates. I expect Democrats to try, desperately, to get
attention off of her this weekend, since they cannot respond to her
pick without hurting themselves. A few criticisms you WON’T hear,
    though…

-She doesn’t understand poverty…grew up a child of poor school
    employees.
-She doesn’t understand famililties. She is mother of 5.
-She wants to kill our children in a war. She has a child that will
    be IN that war.

I’m pretty sure Palin would have had the brains not to give a stack of DVDs and a couple plastic toy helicopters from the White House gift shop to Gordon Brown. I’m pretty sure she not only would have read the brief on Brazil but taken their importance seriously.

I suspect that somewhere along the line, Obama is going to manage to insult Botswana, Japan, and Ukraine. I’m also pretty sure Palin would know better than to do that to.

Why? Because Palin understands that the things you do in office have meaning and consequence for others. Obama only sees office as having consequence for himself. Palin would by default act in multiple interests. Obama only knows his own and doesn’t care about others.

Which is the usual for people of his kind: mid-level career civil service supervisor mentality. Constantly second-guessing everything for fear of being overtaken from the ranks below and for fear of the superiors finding he’s a fraud and not good enough. Totally insecure and firmly bought into the self-fulfilling prophecy of self-destruction as he tries to be all things to all people one moment, and a self-serving political wonk the next. Ever changing, always egotistical, juggling ten cats with ten dogs lapping around his ankles and about to fall over.

The kind of person you hope you won’t get for a junior high teacher but always seem to. A total dick, and a self-created one entirely.
