Law and Order in the RNC Chair? Newt out of the mix?
The RNC may need a little Law and Order to get their sh.. straight. Fred Thompson is considering a run for the RNC chair.
“I’m extremely excited that he’s considering it,” said Scooter Clippard, a Middle Tennessee businessman who spearheaded national fundraising for the Thompson and McCain campaigns. “It’s time for a change. Fred Thompson would be the absolute best person to articulate that message for the party.”
I like the idea of Fred. I also like the idea of Michael Steele or Newt, but it sounds like Newt might not be in the mix anymore and is now endorsing Michael Steele for the gig.
Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, has decided to run for the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee and is in talks with Newt Gingrich to win the former House speaker’s endorsement, FOX News learned Tuesday.
Steele declined to comment, but a source close to the situation said Steele would announce his candidacy as early as Thursday.
The source also contradicted a report in Tuesday’s Washington Times that Steele and Gingrich were competing for the RNC post.
“There is no fight,” the source said. “This tension between Michael Steele and Newt Gingrich is totally fabricated and, in fact, Gingrich and Steele are working together to create a new strategy for the direction of the GOP.”
In a statement issued by the former House speaker, Gingrich said he was not interested in seeking the post of Republican Party chairman
Probably a good thing. Steele would bring a whole new sense of country and conservatism in my opinion. I love the Steele pick.
Meanwhile, Steele is said to be hoping that his entry into the race will scare off other hopefuls, including current RNC chairman Mike Duncan.
I think Duncan has screwed up the Party enough. Thanks for offering to stay on though, very nice gesture.
Who’s going to be the pick? I think the odds are on Steele, but Fred Thompson would be legit too. I’d like to see Rudy Giuliani…….as we saw in his speech at the Convention he can fire up a crowd.
