Lancet Study Releases Its Data

Remember that Lancet study the left was crowing about earlier in the year?  The one that showed some absurd number of civilian casualties, something like 650,000, in Iraq?

Well after much public debate (and criticism even from anti-war leftist organizations) over the group’s report they’ve finally agreed to release their data for scrutiny.  But only to “organizations or groups without publicly stated views that would cause doubt about their objectivity in analyzing the data.”

Which would be a bit like the President only releasing his proposed budget to fellow Republicans for review, wouldn’t it?

This is pretty shameless.  Lancet is a proud, historic name in the field of medical research and discovery.  But the folks who are running the group now are crapping all over that legacy.

You know, nothing says “I’m confident in my work” like a refusal to let critical eyes see it.  One would suggest that maybe the Lancet needs to be reminded that a critical part of science is that it must be reproducible, and hiding your data from critical eyes is exhibit A that they’re not serious about doing science there.

Rather than your example of President Bush releasing the details of his budget proposal to just Republicans, how about John Kerry releasing details of his military records to only his biographer and a few selected editors on the staff of the Boston Globe?
