Kerry Being Sent To Time Out For Duration Of Campaign Season

Too funny…

WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Senator John Kerry said he is pulling back from campaigning ahead of next week’s midterm elections to avoid the continued distraction created by his remarks that Americans who neglect their education would “get stuck in Iraq.”

“I’m coming back to Washington today so that I’m not a distraction, because I don’t want to be a distraction to these campaigns,” the 2004 presidential candidate told US television.

Kerry held to his position, however, that he would not apologize for the remark made to students in California on Monday.

“I said it was a botched joke. Of course, I’m sorry about a botched joke. You think I love botched jokes? I mean, it’s pretty stupid,” he told MSNBC television.

Yes, it is pretty stupid Senator.

Unbelievable that Kerry will apologize for a “botched joke” but refuses to apologize for the way that “botched joke” insulted our troops.  If Kerry misspoke (and I’m still not convinced that he did) then whatever.  I still don’t understand why he can’t apologize.

And neither can the Republicans, apparently, given this new ad they’re running:

By the way, this is pretty much the last nail in the coffin for any hopes at a Kerry run for the Presidency in 2008.  If the Democrats can’t trust this guy to be out on the campaign trail when he’s not even running for office, why on earth would they trust him to campaign for the Presidency?  Again?

Update: Democrat Senate incumbent candidate Harold Ford Junior feels Kerry must apologize to our troops:

“Whatever the intent, Senator Kerry was wrong to say what he said,” Ford said in a statement issued Wednesday morning. “He needs to apologize to our troops. However, Senator Kerry’s words don’t alter the fact that the stay-the-course strategy pursued by President Bush and supported by Bob Corker isn’t working. We need a new direction in Iraq. I know how hard our troops work, and the sacrifices they make, for our freedoms.”

Meanwhile, the nutroots are in full spin mode trying to pass this lame “I aplogize for botching a joke” nonsense from Kerry off as a real apology.

It isn’t.

Because he’s an insipid, haughty, pretentious jerk who looks down his nose at those of us who reside in “flyover country!”

botched joke

Is he referring to his campaign for President?, his Senate career? Or just his effectiveness on the campaign trail?

Bush and Kerry received about the same grades at Yale (Bush slightly better).  Clearly Kerry wasn’t talking about himself and he wasn’t talking about Bush since both Bush and Kerry apparently “made the most of it (education), studied hard, did their homework, and made an effort to be smart.”

Given that he never said anything at all about the troops, much less insult them, he shouldn’t have to apologize for it.

Well, Democrat candidate Harold Ford Junior seems to think that Kerry needs to apologize to our troops.

I guess only sycophantic partisans like you think Kerry a) didn’t insult the troops and b) shouldn’t need to apologize for it.

Chad: In the context of political discourse,

“you get stuck in Iraq.”

refers to our current conflict in Iraq. Our troops are in Iraq. The students he was addressing were American students. What is the most likely venue for them going to Iraq? The military. Or did you think he was referring to Iraqi travel agents?

All he has to do is say “If I offended anyone I am sorry. That was not my intent. I meant to challenge the President on being in Iraq. I never intended to imply anything negative about our troops.” Say that and make some donation to a pro troop charity. BUT HE WONT. He refuses to apologize and lefties are backing him on this. That is the problem with the Democratic Party. They don’t give a damn about anything outside of themselves and now they are proving it. And of course the President is going to demand an apology. Even a Demcratic President would tell Kerry to apologize.

Bush started the war in Iraq…

Wrong again, rbb.  We went in(America) to depose a murdering, torturing and raping dictator, and to free tens of millions of people to enjoy self-determination.  The terrorists, some foreign and some domestic, decided to make it a war, instead of having the vast majority of the Iraqi people enjoy their freedom.
BTW, the reason for deposing Saddam was far greater than any justification for Clinton’s invasion of Kosovo.  Milosevic was never a threat to the region, but Saddam was.

Bush started the war in Iraq -rbb

Sorry, Bob! Wrong Bush! When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, Bush 41 responded with Desert Storm. That conflict ended with a ceasefire, the terms of which, Saddam Hussein failed to comply.

When Saddam defied the UN and its resolutions, the US, as the world’s only remaining superpower, stepped in to finish what Bush Sr. and the US had started. Finishing the war that Saddam started was key to denying safe haven to terrorists.

You’d think someone who called himself “reality based” might occasionally get his facts straight!

On the first day of the 104th Congress, the new Republican majority will immediately pass the following major reforms, aimed at restoring the faith and trust of the American people in their government:
•  FIRST, require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply equally to the Congress;
•  SECOND, select a major, independent auditing firm to conduct a comprehensive audit of Congress for waste, fraud or abuse;
•  THIRD, cut the number of House committees, and cut committee staff by one-third;
•  FOURTH, limit the terms of all committee chairs;
•  FIFTH, ban the casting of proxy votes in committee;
•  SIXTH, require committee meetings to be open to the public;
•  SEVENTH, require a three-fifths majority vote to pass a tax increase;
•  EIGHTH, guarantee an honest accounting of our Federal Budget by implementing zero base-line budgeting.

How’s this coming along, gopers?

Any news about the other 10 points?

Yes Democrats hate America and want to see it burn! It couldn’t possibly be that they’re simply students of history. The last time in American History that conservatives held power for this long, in both the Presidential and Legislative branches of government, the U.S. suffered WW1 and mass poverty. Republicans won control of the government in 1900 when William McKinley was re-elected, continued with it after his assassination, under Teddy Roosevelt, and running into the early administration of William Taft. The party’s power took up again in 1921 under Warren G. Harding—running through the administrations of Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover ended with the Great Depression- with massive corruption and multiple scandals interspersed between. You would think we would have learned by now. History and hunger both being great teachers.

Chad on November 1, 2006 at 10:48 am

FDR caused the Great Depression, dude, not Hoover.  FDR’s socialist policies turned a market downturn into a depression.
The Dems want us to lose the war by cutting and running, which will embolden the terrorists to come here to kill us; the Dems want the economy to fail, and have been relentlessly downtalking it for six years, and all for partisan political gain.  They want power, and don’t care if they have to destroy the country in the process.  In fact, that would make it easier to turn us into a Soviet-style dictatorship, with the Dems at the top, mandating our activities.

It’s worth noting that Wonkette understands exactly what Kerry said, and she noted that the proper thing to do in any crucial situation is to lock him in an (expletive deleted) closet and throw away the (expletive deleted) key.  Even some left-liberals understand the ordinary implications of statements from time to time.

And for what it’s worth, Hoover also did some intervention that helped to deepen the 1929 recession into the Great Depression.  He’s still a minor leaguer compared to FDR, but I’m loath to ignore his contribution here.  :^)

Either way, the problem is still government action where free markets ought to be given a bit of free rein.

Not that he needs to, but he has apologized.

Kerry appologized after he got defensive and made said he did nothing wrong.

Bush is stuck in Iraq, he’s just dragging the troops down into the quagmire with him.

IF I am not mistake Kerry Voted for the war, before he was against it.

It really confuses me how Dems can really like Kerry? Kerry is the eltiest leftist jerk that we all read about. His comments about the soldiers should confuse no one, Kerry is a person that doesn’t support the troops. While he can poo-poo this and say that he is attacking Bush for being stupid Bush went to Yale and did get his business degree. I have been told got better grades than Kerry.

It turns out George W. Bush and John Kerry were mediocre students at Yale. Bush, in fact, had a slightly better average than his 2004 foe. I wonder if the “Bush is dumb” crowd, who incessantly invoke such trivia as Bush’s college transcripts, will now do the same for Kerry. I’ll settle for them ceasing to mistake modest academic achievements as an Oval Office disqualifier.

College is overrated. The almae matres of Harry Truman (never graduated from college), Lyndon Johnson (Southwest Texas Teachers College), and Richard Nixon (Whittier College) prove this. Stellar grades and a high IQ doesn’t translate into a great president. When we elect a president, we don’t necessarily look for the most intelligent or studious man. Intelligent people can be arrogant, fanatical, cowardly, and lacking in good judgment. In other words, many factors go into making a good president, intelligence being but one. Liberals forget this, insulting half of the men on national Republican tickets as stupid (Ronald Reagan, Dan Quayle, George W. Bush) and the other half—that can’t be so dismissed—as evil (Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, Dick Cheney). Liberals want an intellectual in chief. Americans want a commander in chief. If you don’t get this, look up President Adlai Stevenson or President Eugene McCarthy in the history books.

I was joking about how the GOP is changing the subject with all this Kerry crap. No one cares anyway, he’s a dumbass. ‘The Iraq War’ is not a leftie talking point, its a fucking joke that your homeboys got us into.
Furthermore - getting stuck in Iraq does suck. Any number of people can tell you that. Even ‘National Guard’ who are supposed to be here ‘Guarding the Nation’ and not off in the Garden of Eden shooting the locals.

Which is SO unlike how the libs were changing the subject with all the Foley crap!

The difference is, that the views of John Kerry, the former Democratic Presidential nominee are far more indicative of the beliefs of the Michael Moore/MoveON.Org Democartic party than Mark Foley’s are of the Republicans.

And John Kerry’s little snapshot into the soul of the Democratic party (or lack thereof), may have bearing on which party controls the levers of power after next Tuesday’s election.

He was the candidate for President that the free lunch bunch nominated, so you may be right. Congratulations!

I’d rather see 3000 soldiers die in three years fighting, based on a hunch, than to lose 3000 civilians in 2 hours because we did nothing.  They don’t get it guys, and they will not get it.  They think war can be sanitized like the movies.

They also believe that if we had put all our military into Afghanistan, that bin Laden and co. would stick around and get slaughtered.  They seem to believe Abrams tanks and mechanized infantry will function in the mountains of Afghanistan…yeah, and the moon is made of green cheese too.  The Democrats have spent so long disengaged from the military, that they don’t even understand its capabilities and limitations.  From the way they talk, they don’t even understand that soldiers die in war.

They don’t understand that a fundamental change, in the status quo, needs to take place in the ME, and that the change will be bloody and take a long time.  “If only we changed the way we act, they might like us better”, is a recipe for suicide and surrender.

You need to show strength in the face of the enemy, not cowardice.  Sadly, those on the Left will never get it, because it conflicts with too many of their long held beliefs.  Convincing someone on the Left, that war is bloody and hard and necessary, is like trying to convince a Christian that Jesus is not the son of God.

I’m done with my rant, time to get some sleep.

Sparkie: To quote the Chinese Sage Lao Tzu:

When the Superior Man hears of the Tao(the Truth), he immediately puts it into practice;

When the Middling Man hears of the Tao, he wants to find out more about it;

When the Fool hears about the Tao, he laughs; if he did not laugh, it wouldn’t be the Tao.

Keep laughing!

If govt control of the economy were the way to go, the Soviet Union would be the richest, most powerful nation in the history of the world.

Thanks to Obama, America remains the only country where it is illegal to drill our own oil!

A lie of course.  Did you make that up or does Kos do all your thinking for you.
