Kerry Being Sent To Time Out For Duration Of Campaign Season
Too funny…
WASHINGTON (AFP) - US Senator John Kerry said he is pulling back from campaigning ahead of next week’s midterm elections to avoid the continued distraction created by his remarks that Americans who neglect their education would “get stuck in Iraq.”
“I’m coming back to Washington today so that I’m not a distraction, because I don’t want to be a distraction to these campaigns,” the 2004 presidential candidate told US television.
Kerry held to his position, however, that he would not apologize for the remark made to students in California on Monday.
“I said it was a botched joke. Of course, I’m sorry about a botched joke. You think I love botched jokes? I mean, it’s pretty stupid,” he told MSNBC television.
Yes, it is pretty stupid Senator.
Unbelievable that Kerry will apologize for a “botched joke” but refuses to apologize for the way that “botched joke” insulted our troops. If Kerry misspoke (and I’m still not convinced that he did) then whatever. I still don’t understand why he can’t apologize.
And neither can the Republicans, apparently, given this new ad they’re running:
By the way, this is pretty much the last nail in the coffin for any hopes at a Kerry run for the Presidency in 2008. If the Democrats can’t trust this guy to be out on the campaign trail when he’s not even running for office, why on earth would they trust him to campaign for the Presidency? Again?
Update: Democrat Senate incumbent candidate Harold Ford Junior feels Kerry must apologize to our troops:
“Whatever the intent, Senator Kerry was wrong to say what he said,” Ford said in a statement issued Wednesday morning. “He needs to apologize to our troops. However, Senator Kerry’s words don’t alter the fact that the stay-the-course strategy pursued by President Bush and supported by Bob Corker isn’t working. We need a new direction in Iraq. I know how hard our troops work, and the sacrifices they make, for our freedoms.”
Meanwhile, the nutroots are in full spin mode trying to pass this lame “I aplogize for botching a joke” nonsense from Kerry off as a real apology.
It isn’t.
