Kent Conrad Votes To Cut Funding For Our Troops

Just got this press release from the NDGOP:

BISMARCK, ND – In a shocking move that was rejected by his fellow Democrats, Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND) proposed cutting funding for troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Conrad’s proposal would have cut $20 billion from President Bush’s $142 billion request for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan next year. (Dems Nix Idea of Military Budget Cuts, Andrew Taylor, the Associated Press, March 1, 2007)
“While thousands of Americans are risking their lives on a daily basis to fight and to win the War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, Senator Conrad proposes pulling the rug out from under them. When even his own party members jumped to be first to disclaim any desire to join the Senator, Conrad quickly backtracked, claiming to support the President’s numbers. The voters of North Dakota deserve an answer as to why Senator Conrad wants to play politics with funding affecting the welfare of our troops while they are in harm’s way.” said Ken Karls, Chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party.

But don’t you worry, North Dakota. Even as Kent Conrad tries to cut off funds for our troops even as they fight and die on the battlefield in the middle east he’ll still be trying to bring home that $4 billion in ag pork he’s been promising.

    Fellas,

My friends, why are you wasting your time on this Leftist psycho? I once heard a saying that seems to be apt here: when you argue with an idiot — now there are two idiots.

It seems we have had a recent spate of Leftists showing up under one name, spewing for a bit, then only to be replaced by another name spewing the same thing.

Is this all the work of one, maybe two, such Marxist idiots?

Teddy Roosevelt was also challenged by the Marquis de’More to a duel with swords. Teddy Roosevelt detested violence and direct challenges from nutjobs like the Marquis. The Marquis turned chicken and declined the accepted challenge.

    Here’s another Roland Walter gem:

The amount of depleted uranium on the ground in Iraq is appalling. Estimated to be equal to 250 000 Nagasaki bombs.

What a pile of pig manure.

Depleted uranium is U235 has a half-life of billions of years, which makes it essentially inert from a radiological perspective.

You couldn’t make a single bomb with the entirety of the depleted uranium on the ground in Iraq.

Secondly, if there were an carcinogenic component to U235, it would be from chemical toxicity, and rather than being of radiological origin.

So once again there is exactly a zero correspondence between your claims and the facts.

The dirty little secret is that farming wasn’t nearly as bad as was feared when Conrad came up with his scheme.

During the summer it was very dry, but things worked out pretty well.

I think Rob pointed out that the aid wouldn’t go to farmers that could demonstrate that they needed it, but rather would go out as a bonus to farmers who are currently getting farm program funds.

I’m not against needed disaster aid, but I am against free money just because a politician wants to look generous with other peoples money.

To the heart of it, Kent Conrad is a slime if he’s pushing for cutting funding for the war effort.

I was at one time a ‘Republican’ voter. I voted for Ed Schaefer. I have voted for ‘Republicans’ many times in the past. Until I found out the truth about the real bums that they have become. The mayor of Spokane, Washingtion, James West has a sordid history.

Go to armchairsubversive.com and find out the real truth about ‘Republicans.’ They are nothing like what they claim to be.

Go to bartleby.com and read the history of Theodore Roosevelt. You are in for an eye opener as to what kind of man he really was. He was a true Republican, not the empty suits that have run the US government and this country into the ground with their unbridled spending.

Teddy Roosevelt is rolling in his grave.

The Republican Party is dead. It has been replaced by the party of morals and values. The ‘Republicans’ of today have none. They have made a joke of the GOP and I sincerely hope that they dry up and blow away.

Down with the (ahem) ‘Republicans,’ and their phoney baloney feel good, sexed-up rhetoric to use to take advantage of America.

    Roland Walter:

The amount of depleted uranium on the ground in Iraq is appalling

    so:

In April 2001, the World Health Organization report Depleted Uranium: Sources, Exposure, and Health Effects, stated: “no increase of leukemia or other cancers has been established following exposure to uranium or depleted uranium.” (chapter 13, p. 132)

A March 2001 European Commission report concluded, “exposure to DU could not produce any detectable effect on human health under realistic assumptions of the doses that would be received.” (p. 11)

A January 2001 NATO study found that, “based on the data today, no link has been established between depleted uranium and any forms of cancer.”

In 1999, a RAND Corporation study on depleted uranium concluded: “no evidence is documented in the literature of cancer or any other negative health effect related to the radiation received from exposure to natural uranium, whether inhaled or ingested, even in very high doses.” (chapter 2, pp. 36-37)

The Iraqis are untermenschen like the Jews in Germany and they deserve to be in concentration camps like Abu Ghraib, don’t they? They’re such sub-human apes, maybe we should just kill them all. The Final Solution.

Let us have a dagger between our teeth, a bomb in our hands, and an infinite scorn in our hearts.
    Benito Mussolini (1883 – 1945)

Kent is a good US Senator and he has a heart.

Using the word ‘slime’ to describe him is smarmy, yellow journalism.

  • Ronald Walter

There has been 400 billion dollars spent on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. A war that was to last only six weeks, six months at the most, is now longer than the Second World War. It was to cost, at the most, sixty billion dollars.

George Bush now wants to bring seven thousand Iraqis into the United States while sending 21 thousand Americans into the Iraq. Wise move, weedhopper.

The war will continue until the cows come home and the result will be the same. How many US military personnel will be killed until Americans will have had enough?

Somebody has to put a stop to this madness. Kent has done the right thing.

It is better to keep your head when everyone about you has lost theirs, to paraphrase Rudyard Kipling’s If.

    RW,

Here’s some remedial reading for you:

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, March 3, 1863, has awarded in the name of The Congress the Medal of Honor to:

LIEUTENANT COLONEL THEODORE ROOSEVELT UNITED STATES ARMY

for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.

Lieutenant Colonel Theodore Roosevelt distinguished himself by acts of bravery on 1 July 1898, near Santiago de Cuba, Republic of Cuba, while leading a daring charge up San Juan Hill. Lieutenant Colonel Roosevelt, in total disregard for his personal safety, and accompanied by only four or five men, led a desperate and gallant charge up San Juan Hill, encouraging his troops to continue the assault through withering enemy fire over open countryside. Facing the enemy’s heavy fire, he displayed extraordinary bravery throughout the charge, and was the first to reach the enemy trenches, where he quickly killed one of the enemy with his pistol, allowing his men to continue the assault. His leadership and valor turned the tide in the Battle for San Juan Hill. Lieutenant Colonel Roosevelt’s extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

How many soldiers are in Viet Nam?

There were 550 000 deserters during the Viet Nam War. There were 50 000 demonstrators on the lawn of the Pentagon. A navy aircraft carrier was set afire and burned for six days, a suspected mutiny. Officers were fragged. Enlisted men would cheer when an officer was killed in action because they knew that an officer who died in the line of duty was probably fragged.

There were demonstrations on the Mall in front of the east side of the US Capitol. Demonstrating former GI’s threatened to storm the Capitol and take it over forcefully. They refused to fight another war that was killing their friends and comrades in arms by the thousands. However, they had enough guts to threaten the US government with a forceful takeover.

The US military brass were helpless because the were outnumbered by hundreds of thousands.

Those are the facts, read them and weap. If you doubt the veracity, you don’t want to know the real history.

Do the work, do a search, find out the real story.

How many US soldiers are in Viet Nam?

The war in Iraq may last for fifty years. If you want to be so supportive of the war in the Middle East, go join the armed forces and go.

You don’t have to argue with your keyboard anymore. If you want to talk the talk, walk the walk.

Finally, you will realize that Kent was right.

Let’s take the Iraq war out of this equation and just focus on Kent’s position. Like it or not, we’ve got troops on the battlefield in Iraq. Conrad, despite the federal deficit shrinking over the last few years, has been complaining about it endlessly. So he proposes cutting off $20 billion in funds from our troops even as they fight and die for us on the battlefield.

That’s rather cold and callous, but fair enough. Conrad sees a deficit and wants to cut spending to fix it.

How then does he justify trying to tack on $4 billion in ag pork to the Iraq/Afghanistan spending bill? I mean, if Conrad is so concerned about federal deficits why is he proposing more spending?

  • http://sayanythingblog.com robport

What makes him really slime is that he’s pushing to cut funds for the war effort because of the deficits while simultaneously proposing earmarks…

It’s like his only two solutions to deficits are a) raise taxes and b) cut military spending.
