Kent Conrad Lied About Ownership Of Beach Home On Senate Disclosures

According to Kent Conrad’s 2007 financial disclosure forms the vacation home purchased in Delaware with a “VIP” loan from disgraced Countrywide Mortgage CEO Angelo Mozilo is owned by his wife, MLB lobbyist Lucy Calautti.

According to the local county recorder, however, Senator Conrad and his wife are the owners of the property:

Add this to the lie Conrad told about his relationship with Mozilo and a distinct pattern of dishonest emerges.

In related news, it would appear as though Conrad has a guilty conscience over the VIP loan he got from Mozilo:

Washington (AP) A North Dakota senator says he is donating $10,500 to charity and refinancing his loan on an apartment building after reviewing documents that show he received special treatment from Countrywide Financial Corp.

Sen. Kent Conrad, a Democrat, said on Saturday that it appears that Countrywide waived 1 point on his mortgage for a Bethany Beach, Del., vacation home. He said he would donate the equivalent amount of money to Habitat for Humanity.

Nice gesture for Kent to make….after he got caught.

Also, Conrad’s feigned shock at the idea that he got preferential treatment on this loan is laughable.  He himself called up the CEO of Countrywide Mortgage to ask for a loan.  If all you want is a routine loan you don’t call up the CEO.
