Kent Conrad Aide: The Senator Isn’t Opposed To A Government Health Care Plan

Yesterday the Jamestown Sun reported that Senator Kent Conrad announced to a town hall in Carrington that he would not support a government health care plan. Given that Senator Conrad is a key vote on health care, this invoked no small amount outrage from national liberal interests and now Conrad is busy backpeddaling from that position complaining that his statements were misinterpreted by local reporters.

The Sun’s story never quoted Conrad directly about the public option, and the senator’s communications director, Sean Neary, told Salon that the story was inaccurate. Conrad has been telling his constituents that he won’t let the government run their health care, which may be the cause of the confusion, but that language doesn’t preclude the public option.

I put in a phone call to Sun reporter Katie Ryan to find out if she had a direct quote for what Conrad actually said, but as of right now I’m just getting voicemail.
What wouldn’t surprise me, however, is to learn that Conrad is saying one thing to his constituents here in North Dakota and another thing to his liberal allies nationally.

Here is senator conrads schedule for the august recess,
no big towns just small one probably with real receptive audiences. http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/search_results?orderby=day&state=ND&country=US&event;_type0=252&limit=100&radius_unit=miles

From the same web page you have to RVSP to see the events. It also would appear that Kent is a proponent of Health Care from these statements. These senators need to realize they work for the people of ND not for the Liberal wing of the DNC. They don’t vote for our senators the people of ND do. Time to send these guys home for good, In Conrad’s case it’s probably the beach house in Delaware.

Our representatives are under attack by Washington insiders, insurance companies, and well-financed special interests who don’t go a day without spreading lies and stirring up…

He is trying to walk the fine line of convincing people here that a co-op isn’t a govt plan, while appeasing those in Washington he needs to appease.

I watched a piece on KFYR tonight, and they did mentioned that he was criticized for not spending enough time answering questions, so the “listening” session they showed had him answering more questions and it was packed, and the signs didn’t seem to be happy, you go Kent, signs.

Anyway, they did give a soundbite of him touting co-ops and making it clear that it wasn’t a “public” plan like what is being discussed in Washington…all semantics, but he is trying to convince both sides that he is on their side.

On FOX this morning, your brave North Dakota Senator all but admitted the September 15th deadline for passing “Health Insurance Reform,” will not be met and that abortion funding and “mandatory” end of life counselling were dead.

We must remember that examining semantics should be in play in listening to these lying politicians, the word “mandatory” means end of life counselling and pressure to off yourself will still be approved. Also, language not approving federal abortion funding can still allow such funding under different programs or definitions.

In essence it appears that “Health Care Reform” is dead, it is now “Health Insurance reform, Obama is now pressuring for an incremental system that will move us towards national health insurance (single payer), but by his own words, a plan that will not hurt the Democrats in upcoming elections.

I was there and what I remember is that he said he would not support a government-run health care system. Whatever one thinks about the public option, it is not the same thing.

He also said that opposed the public plan in the House bill.

I saw that piece too Badlands, In a nursing home? trying to quell the seasoned seniors fear? Can’t walk two ropes very long before falling!
