Kent Conrad: Death Tax Cut Is “Fiscally Irresponsible”
Senator Kent Conrad was the first Democrat in the Senate to endorse Barack Obama’s campaign. Since taking office, Conrad has helped pass Obama’s budgets that have added over $3 trillion to the national debt.
But according to the “deficit hawk,” it’s not all the spending he and his party have helped pass through Congress since 2006 it’s letting Americans keep more of their own money that’s fiscally irresponsible.
It’s pretty clear that Conrad’s idea of deficit reduction is, and always will be, taking more of your money.
I will say that I agree with him when he talks of closing tax loopholes (read: tax deductions) in exchange for a lower overall tax rate. I’d like to see our tax code simplified with fewer deductions, and the tax increases offset with lower overall rates.
This would spread the burden of federal taxes more evenly, it would lower compliance costs and it would simplify the administration of the tax code. It’s something I hope to see happen.
