Kent Conrad Blames Lack Of Democrat Budget On Republicans

110721_kentconrad_ap_328

Alleged Senate “budget hawk” Kent Conrad would like you to know that Senate Democrats aren’t producing a budget this year (again) because those stupid Republicans probably wouldn’t like it anyway.

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., has a plan for solving the nation’s debt crisis but doesn’t expect anything to get done before the fall election.

“I think Senator [Harry] Reid has made the judgment, quite correctly, that there is very little chance that we’re going to get the two sides together before the election,” Conrad said on “Fox News Sunday” of the Senate majority leader.

Conrad believes the only way Congress can significantly reduce the deficit is through a bipartisan deal.
“We got to have a long-term plan,” he said. “The only way you’re going to have a long term that’s sustainable is that we get Democrats and Republicans to agree.”

Whatever else may be true of Republicans and their budget proposals, they can’t agree or disagree with anything until Democrats propose something in terms of a budget.

But that’s probably by design. The Democrats want to propose nothing, and then accuse Republicans (be it directly or in a more oblique fashion as Conrad does above) of being obstructionists. They’d rather attack Republican budgets – such as Paul Ryan’s proposed spending plan, or Senator Rand Paul’s budgets – than propose anything of their own.

Which just goes to show that Democrats aren’t really serious about the nation’s fiscal problems.

Kent has the system perfected. If he complains about the other side right away, then he can skip the part that requires a proposal of his own. Honestly, it doesn’t matter because when democrats propose spending cuts they target a few billion dollars of discretionary spending, ignore the entitlements (the bulk of spending), and hope the american people can’t do the math. To be fair, the shit is stacked 100 feet high in both parties and it’s about time we, the people, shoveled it out. The Republicans are all over cutting the deficit because they are looking for votes, so I’m skeptical of their dedication to the issue. The bottom line is this country needs to pay of its debt and curtail inflation in order to restore confidence into the dollar.

I agree,  except perhaps for your gentle assessment of the Republican party  Ive become very skeptical of their motives these last few years.  and have become a believer that this country will be in a very dire condition no matter who is in charge..  The need to be self sufficient is coming ever closer…

Oh, that was not meant to be a gentle assessment of the republican party because they are the other half of the same problem.

Are you saying that you would prefer the Republicans not be so mean and just be a little more accomodating and accepting of their spending proposals? Thanks but no thanks. I want representatives that the big spenders like Conrad fear.

I saw this guy last night on Fox News, and he lied on national TV.  He said that the Bush administration “ran everything” when the collapse of the affirmative action home loan program, and that’s not true.  We had had the Pelosi/Reid Congress for two years.  Not impressive.

      People still voted for him.
      America screwed up.

      Let’s fix it in 2012.

Kent Conrad’s the jackass of all jackasses. Thank fringe lunatic Anna Bourgois for splitting Mark Andrews’ vote in 1986 and saddling your state with this moron for a quarter century.

I think Obama already has someone to walk his dog.

The Democrats knew that they weren’t going to get any Republicans to go along with Obamacare.  But they pushed that through Congress without bipartisan support.

A budget resolution can be passed with just a simple majority.  The Democrats have this majority in the Senate.  They could pass a budget if they really wanted to.

It would help if they had bipartisan support, but I suspect that they don’t even have partisan support.  Not that the Democrats wouldn’t vote yes on their own budget, but because they don’t want to be affiliated with their own party’s budget.  If you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all…..

I wonder if democrats have a genetic disposition to compulsively lie.
