Keeping Fred’s “Slow” Campaign Announcement In Perspective

Bill Quick makes a good point:

Here’s a little reminder for those on the right, and especially those on the left, who are slamming Fred Thompson for not formally announcing his candidacy: by the “Kerry Standard” [Sept 2nd , 2003] of the most recent Presidential campaign, Thompson still has about a month and a half before he needs to announce. Simply because Hillary Clinton has been running a presidential campaign since January 22, 1997, doesn’t mean that everybody else needs to do so.

Thompson’s running. That he hasn’t announced formally yet is irrelevant, and the only reason people are slamming him on it is because they don’t have anything else to criticize him over.

Rob: I hope I am wrong, but it is my opinion that Fred is having a lot of trouble getting his campaign organized to a point where he feels he can announce without falling on his face. I don’t want to be a pessimist, but I have some uncomfortable feelings about this delay. Plus, I am afraid Newt will jump in, he is unelectable, but he could screw things up big time.
