Karr Didn’t Kill JonBenet

After all the media hoopla over the last several days it turns out that John Mark Karr wasn’t Jon Benet Ramsey’s murderer.

BOULDER, Colorado (CNN) — Schoolteacher John Mark Karr will not be charged with the murder of 6-year-old beauty pageant competitor JonBenet Ramsey, Karr’s attorney said Monday.
“The warrant on Mr. Karr has been dropped by the district attorney,” public defender Seth Temin said outside the jail. “They are not proceeding with the case.”
He said a hearing scheduled later Monday afternoon has been canceled.
Temin also said he was “deeply disturbed” that authorities in Boulder brought Karr from Thailand with what appears to have been scant evidence.

An embarrassing situation for all involved.

delisfar: “…most rape cases are prosecuted with no DNA evidence at all.”

But this one has DNA, so it doesn’t fit in that group. You are trying to promote the same logical fallacy the prosecutor tried to sell. The proper conclusion is that, since there is DNA(and plenty of it, apparently), it is a factor, and that BS about rape cases prosecuted without it doesn’t apply. In this case, the DNA would be exculpatory, since there is no match. To convict them properly, you would have to prove that it is possible to rape someone for an extended period of time, in every orifice, in a confined space, without leaving any DNA evidence whatsoever, in a group situation. Pretty farfetched, IMO.

    What TW said.

Why no dropping charges in Duke case? Because in the Ramsay case, DNA is the only thing that would have placed him there. With a positive mis-match, they have no evidence placing him there. In contrast, the Duke case relies on evidence (however questionable) other than DNA placing the accused at the scene, and possibly involved in the incident. Contrary to common believe, most rape cases are prosecuted with no DNA evidence at all. So, merely because the DNA did not match at Duke does not exonerate the accused as strongly as it tends to exonerate Karr.

Good question, R*108. Some allege there are other pieces of good evidence, others suggest it’s an election year and the DA has really stunk up the process.

  • delisfar

It does not “turn out that John Mark Karr wasn’t Jon Benet Ramsey’s murderer.” It turns out that the evidence doesn’t support a prosecution against him. He probably is not the killer, but today’s events do not point one way or the other.

  • robert108

Of course they do; they point in the direction that he is not the killer, and away from the direction that he is the killer. Duh.

Hmm, and I thought it was race-baiting politics.

    My bad.

  • delisfar

    Robert,

Clarification: I did not mean “in the absence of any DNA.” What I meant was that most rape cases are prosecuted (many successfully) without relying on DNA evidence (whether or not available). Here, the prosecutor in the Duke case believes (wrongfully, as far as I can tell) that he can obtain a conviction with the non-DNA evidence (i.e., stripper’s testimony and that ridiculous lineup). Lotsa luck, dude.

Still, even if none of these guys did the deed, it is possible that they aided/abetted (if the incident in fact occurred).

The question in the earlier comment (“why not cut loose in Duke case?”) appeared to imply that the lack of a match necessarily is exonerating. That is not always true, and that is why (in the DA’s mind at least), he need not drop the case merely because the DNA did not match.

The DA in the Ramsay case was in an even worse position — there is no evidence other than the DNA that could have possibly placed Karr there, whereas at Duke it is undisputed that the accuseds were there.

  • robert108

So, when the Duke lacrosse team didn’t match any of the DNA, why weren’t they cut loose?

Now the the liberal media can concentrate on bashing the President on the first anniversary of hurricane Katrina.

  • http://www.bikebubba.blogspot.com/ Robert Perry

Sorry, but the DNA evidence implicates someone else. Along with the alibi, this means he is one sick puppy, but is definitely not the rapist and hence (given his testimony) not the killer.

Turns out that the judge rebuked the Boulder DA for submitting a case with such a striking lack of evidence.

Now the conservative media can concentrate on bashing liberals while the President is marking a politically neutral disaster.

And what does this have to do with John Mark Karr?

    Nothing.

Here’s the point I was going to make:

I thought Karr was innocent and trying to escape from other charges that were against him. He is a psychopath who claims to have relationships that didn’t exist and needs to be locked up for something. Now it will probably cause more people to do the same thing…

  • robert108

He probably wanted a free air trip from Thailand to the USA. Welfare for a pervert.

    Deli,
There was also new alibi evidence from Atlanta in the last 24 hours. Karr’s number two wife had written a thankyou note to Karr’s sister-in-law commenting on the family’s 1996 Christmas visit to Atlanta when the murder was supposed to have taken place.

delisfar: Except for his confession, which is lacking in the Duke case.

On the trans listservs I’m a part of, there’s been some talk lately about how transfolk are misportrayed in the media. In my my opinion about the Jonbenet Ramsey case and how the guy said he was getting a sex change operation in Thailand, etc, and I chastised this sick idiot for blaming his transsexuality.
I’ve heard that there have been several news shows on CNN, etc that had supposed “experts” on to say that transsexuality is a disease, an illness, something for mentally ill/sick people, and defending the “transness results from bad childhood” defense. If this is true, and I see no reason why the people on these listservs would make this up, I am once again disturbed by
the level of LIES “our” media has been feeding us as of late. If these are “news programs,” why is it okay for them to broadcast incorrect OPINIONS about transsexuality being an “illness?” That is NOT NEWS, it is LIES!!!
Bigots who wish to kill trans and queer people have used the “bad childhood” and “mentally ill” argument for centuries. To allow this viewpoint on a television news program and call it “news” is giving these bigots fuel for the fire. With the number of trans (and other gender-variant) people killed each year simply because of perception of their gender, the media should be held RESPONSIBLE for promoting violence when they put these fake “experts” on for a nation to see and call that news.
Let’s call CNN, Fox News, NBC, ABC, CBS…any network that portrays transfolk in a negative light…and tell them–enough of your lies. There
are transpeople, queer people, etc being KILLED because people believe these lies. You have blood on your hands, network and cable news networks, when you broadcast this crap.
Let’s take the blood from off the networks’ hands and spread it all over the streets for everyone to see. Hold the media accountable for the degradation that is currently happening to the transsexual/ transgendered community as a result of the JonBenet Ramsey case and its fallout. This guy that made these FALSE MURDER CLAIMS is spreading lies, and by having fake “experts” on TV validating his nonsensical, fiction-based claims the media has more blood on their hands than ever. I will not be surprised if the statistics for trans murders come out next year and there is a spike in violence against transfolk directly following this case. Watch for the statistics of murders to rise, and call the networks and HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE. Show the blood dripping off their palms and fingertips, and spread it everywhere.
This is my life and I don’t appreciate these “experts” placing my life in more danger on a daily basis. Merely living in this world can be daunting enough without all this compounding the situation.

I had an inkling he wasn’t guilty after he reported that he had drugged her prior to killing her.

Even though the autopsy showed no drugs in her system.

He just wanted some free pub and he got it.

Isn’t Karr wanted in California on charges related to pedophilia?

This is just wild speculation, but I wonder if they didn’t go after him as a suspect in the Ramsey case knowing that such a high profile case would make expedition easier so that he could be charged in CA…
