John McCain’s Divorce

I’m no fan of John McCain, but I sure don’t think the fact that John McCain got a divorce from his first wife should matter that much.

First of all if you don’t want to vote for McCain there are plenty of policy problems to focus on.

Secondly they got divorced after he spent his years as a prisoner of war.  During this time she had a life changing auto accident.  There were some issues about how he went about it, but the bottom line is that they were two different people when they were reunited.

As I understand the story, despite the circumstances they remain friends. This is another sad aspect of war, broken families and in McCain’s case, after that many years and as much suffering as he endured, I would be shocked if that marriage had not failed.

No matter the age or state of health, for a military man it is always glorious to tilt at windmills, rescue a fair Dulcinea and be a gallant knight in armor in a glorious cause.

From the Newsweek story on Cindy McCain:

When he returned home in 1973, the two tried to make the marriage work, but they had little in common after six years apart. McCain has said he is responsible for the breakup. In February 1980, he filed for divorce

For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.

I always note the hypocrisy of the Dems, who excused and defended Clinton’s philandering, but claim outrage if a Republican should get a divorce.  Laughable.

Unlike Bill Clinton or Barack Obama (in relation to Rev. Wright) John McCain completely owned up to his ‘poor judgement’, ‘bad behavior’ et al in his first biography “Faith of my Fathers” as it relates to treatment of his first wife.  He was fooling around with Cindy before he was divorced, etc. but one of the other things he agreed to in the divorce settlement was to pay Carol McCain’s medical fees for life.

Also, as the Dems will likely bring out, the entire first part of that book is his complete apathy and poor bahavior at being at the Naval Academy that resulted in his graduating 2-3 from the bottom of the class.

The Dems can try to use it in October, but none of it is a surprise, its been out in the public domain since 1998 when the book was published.

For a trivia question, do you know who paid Carol McCain’s medical bills from the tragic car accident while her husband was being held in a POW camp?

answer below.......

Ross Perot paid Carol McCain’s medical bills, while John McCain was a POW.

Also, to point out the family harmony that exists now -25 yrs later- in the two McCain families.  McCain’s 2nd son Andrew, whom he adopted along with his older brother when he married Carol McCain; is the CFO of Cindy McCain’s company http://www.abwholesaler.com/hensley/AboutUs/Contacts Hensley, the Anheuser Busch distributor.

Oh yes, the double standard of the Clinton era.  Sparkie.  I finally overheard your alleged “whisper campaign” of :John McCain has a xxxxx baby:  I asked and the answer was their adopted child that Cindy wanted to adopt.  Liberals will turn good, honest efforts into filth almost every time.  That was disgusting.

They are honest, God fearing people.  No black liberation “theology” which is another twist on real biblical theology.  Shameful, disgusting people.

I sure hope John McCain doesn’t lose the votes of families who have never had a divorce with this news!

I’m sorry, but the woman John McCain married was a model.  After the accident, she became a fattie.  Nobody wants to be married to a porker. After the divorce McCain gave her a healthy settlement to pay for a lifetime of operations she had in front of her.  I hope he threw in enough for liposuction too.

Nobody wants to be married to a porker.

Bill Clinton has no problem with that.

Dude, it was your hero Bush who used that whisper campaign.  They ran a poll where the question was “What would you think of McCain if you knew he had a illegitimate black child?”

You really don’t understand what “if” means?

Probably the big thing that is important to me about McCain’s moral failing (and divorce always is someone’s moral failing) is that he’s acknowledged the harm he’s done and done his best to take care of the one he’s wronged.  One won’t get a sinless ruler until Christ comes back, and so I’m much happier to have one who knows what sin is and repents, than to have one who completely tortures the definitions.

As I watched Michael Phelps accept the gold medal for swimming in China, and they played the Star Spangled Banner, and the Americans put their hand over their heart, I felt that overwhelming pride in being an American. It made me think about how I want a President who truly loves this country, as I do. A President who has fought, and is wiling to fight for our traditions, and honors our history ... including the words in the Star Spangled Banner ... not somebody who would worry that the words in the Star Spangled Banner might offend foreigners from other countries ... not somebody who doesn’t hold their hand over their heart during the Star Spangled Banner ... and, not somebody who listens to words like ‘God Damn America’ for 20 years ... that’s why I’m voting for Senator John McCain in November!!!
