John Hoeven For Vice President?

Surprising news.

Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota continues to receive plenty of attention as a possible running mate for John McCain, but he isn’t the only Upper Midwest Republican governor appearing on speculators’ short lists.

Vice President John Hoeven?

The Wall Street Journal recently fielded an online poll asking readers who among 12 possible candidates would make the best running mate for McCain, and the North Dakota governor was one of the 12 choices offered.

I’ve never made any bones about my dislike for Governor Hoeven.  I think he’s an opportunistic political triangulator who, for a man who claims to be a Republican, cares very little for the principles of fiscal conservatism.  That being said, a McCain/Hoeven ticket is something I could get behind.

Think about it.  McCain picks Hoeven.  Hoeven resigns as Governor.  He’ll leave North Dakota to take up a post where, frankly, he can’t do a lot of harm and finally the NDGOP will be free to pick a candidate for Governor who might actually be conservative.

My only question is: Who can I call to make this happen?

He should fit right in with McCain. I read this to and I can’t believe it, I think Paulenty is a way better choice than Hoven.

What makes you think they’ll do that?

Here is the kicker Mathern is still going to get creamed by Hoven.

Nothing in particular I guess.  I just said they’d be free to.  Whether or not they would is another matter entirely.

But hey, at lest we’d have the opportunity.

Won’t happen. McCain would further alienate conservatives if he picks Hoeven. Not to mention North Dakota doesn’t mean much in the general election (no offense to you guys, but the state doesn’t exactly have a lot of electoral votes) and Hoeven doesn’t exactly have the name recognition that some of his competitors do. McCain either needs a candidate that will please the conservative base and/or one that will be attractive to swing states.

I agree with that McCain needs a governor or candidate from a state with a benifit to the candidate someone like the Governor from Florida or Minnesota…
