John Edwards:  We’ll Shoot You For Not Going to Your Doctor

Or something like that:  ‘

TIPTON, Iowa - Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care.

“It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care,” he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. “If you are going to be in the system, you can’t choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK.”

He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms in an effort to find and treat “the first trace of problem.” Edwards and his wife, Elizabeth, announced earlier this year that her breast cancer had returned and spread.

So if you refuse to go to the doctor presumably they’ll punish you somehow, maybe not by shooting but whatever it is it’s likely to be unhealthy.

There’s a word for this, fascist.

We’ll Shoot You For Not Going to Your Doctor

Reminds me of the little ads they used to have in the back of Popular Mechanics when I was growing up:

Be a Government Hunter!

Sounded like every kid’s dream job to get paid to go hunting! Maybe I could apply for the new job in the Edwards administration?

National Health Care® is just a step on the road to control.  Once they can use “health issues” as an excuse, we will see all amke nd manner of thing being banned.  As always, whoever pays the bills gets to make the rules.  And despite what you might want to believe, the taxpayer does not pay the bills.  He merely provides the funds for the bills to be paid.

In a sense, the government is like a mugger.  He comes and forces you to give him your money.  He then spends it on what he wants to spend it on.  Oh sure, he asks you what you would like him to spend it on, and he laughs in your face.  Your money is merely his money that he hasn’t gotten yet.

If I remember correctly, Hayek in “The Road to Serfdom” made the observation that the socialist system is based upon conformity of people to the “system”.  Voluntary conformity will turn into government enforced conformity.

What a hypocrite! His wife was one of those who chose not to get a mammogram for many years—but he said it was because she was “so busy” taking care of everyone else, and putting herself last. Poor, poor Elizabeth.

Edwards couldn’t be bothered to make sure his wife was well—he still can’t, actually, since he’s putting his whole family through tremendous stress and anxiety—but he wants to manage health care for the rest of us?

Thanks, but I’ll pass.

I’m no fan of the Breck Girl…but really, if you don’t care for your own health why should you be entitled to free health care?

think about it

Perfect “Universal Healthcare” retort:  http://www.sondrak.com/index.php/weblog/todazed_gem/

“Universal health care eventually gives the government the means to decide who lives and who dies… by group… as a matter of policy… for the good of The People™... without all those pesky ovens.”  -DougM

Fantastic quote, Mike. Thanks.

The purpose of government shouldn’t be to do good, but simply to refrain from doing evil.

If someone doesn’t think their own health care is worth spending their own money on, then why should I be forced to spend my money on their health care.

And if the lefties were really concerned about the uninsured they’d get together and chip in and pay for the coverage.

They do that because they don’t think the problem is so bad that they should sacrifice to solve it.  They strongly feel that other people should be forced to sacrifice for their good deeds.

Most dental plans are already doing such a thing. They cover you 100% and if you don’t go annually they cut your coverage by 10% each year.

Anna it’s a somewhat different thing.

1)  Having a contract that you agreed with your insurance carrier is different from the government mandating that.

2)  In the case of Dental insurance you’re paying for the coverage and the co-payment.  In the case of Edwards he wants third party payer all the way.

I don’t pay for my dental coverage but I understand what you’re saying. I apologize for not reading it more throughly and stand corrected.

Well I would say that if you get your dental coverage through your job you’re earning it if not actually paying for it.
