John Edwards Panders To Some Truthers

Some nut in the audience at an Edwards appearance asks America’s prettiest Senator about investigating the collapse of World Trade Center building 7.  Instead of mocking this ‘tard for being an absolute loon, Edwards panders to him by promising that he’ll “look into it.”

And the crowd cheers.  That’s the scariest thing.

Now there’s two ways to look at this:

If Edwards is just trying to be polite to a supporter, he’s still making campaign promises he has no intention of keeping.

If Edwards is telling the truth and really is planning on looking into these 9/11 conspiracy theories he deserves to be mocked and derided on the same level that holocaust deniers are.

Neither option looks good for Edwards.  And with Kerry doing this same sort of pandering, and with this portion of the liberal lunatic base showing up inconveniently at high-profile campaign stops, the Democrats have a serious problem.

Do they have the courage to do the principled thing and repudiate these nuts for the mouth-breathing doofs they are or are they going to perpetuate these conspiracy theories with their pandering?  Because while the latter might be the most convenient in the short run, the former is the only thing mainstream Americans are going to accept.

And here’s a thought for discussion: At the GOP primary debate the Presidential candidates were asked tough questions about their beliefs with regard to evolution.  With big-name Democrats like Edwards and Kerry apparently taking these “truthers” seriously, maybe some enterprising reporters should go around asking the Democrat Presidential candidates about their feelings with regard to 9/11 conspiracy theories.

I’d sure like to hear their answers and see if they’re capable of answering directly.
