John Edwards Panders To Some Truthers

Some nut in the audience at an Edwards appearance asks America’s prettiest Senator about investigating the collapse of World Trade Center building 7.  Instead of mocking this ‘tard for being an absolute loon, Edwards panders to him by promising that he’ll “look into it.”

And the crowd cheers.  That’s the scariest thing.

Now there’s two ways to look at this:

If Edwards is just trying to be polite to a supporter, he’s still making campaign promises he has no intention of keeping.

If Edwards is telling the truth and really is planning on looking into these 9/11 conspiracy theories he deserves to be mocked and derided on the same level that holocaust deniers are.

Neither option looks good for Edwards.  And with Kerry doing this same sort of pandering, and with this portion of the liberal lunatic base showing up inconveniently at high-profile campaign stops, the Democrats have a serious problem.

Do they have the courage to do the principled thing and repudiate these nuts for the mouth-breathing doofs they are or are they going to perpetuate these conspiracy theories with their pandering?  Because while the latter might be the most convenient in the short run, the former is the only thing mainstream Americans are going to accept.

And here’s a thought for discussion: At the GOP primary debate the Presidential candidates were asked tough questions about their beliefs with regard to evolution.  With big-name Democrats like Edwards and Kerry apparently taking these “truthers” seriously, maybe some enterprising reporters should go around asking the Democrat Presidential candidates about their feelings with regard to 9/11 conspiracy theories.

I’d sure like to hear their answers and see if they’re capable of answering directly.

I think there’s a third option you missed.  He looked completely clueless.  I think Edwards just hadn’t the slightest idea what the fool was talking about.

I think he knew what the fool was talking about and wasn’t sure how to answer.  Scorn is the proper response, but Edwards needs these idiots to vote for him.

I’d still like to hear what Edwards would answer if asked directly about 9/11 conspiracies.  And Hillary, Obama, etc.

You’re too interested in John Edward’s nuts.

Not that there’s anything wrong

By the way, Ace of Spades ( http://ace.mu.nu/ )  has a great rant about this and is linked to this article. Even mentions Rob by name.

This shows that Edwards is as shallow and vapid as he appears. Just another vote whore who will do anything, say anything, promise anything, to get elected.

Was there a spa/hair salon in the World Trade Center? If not, forget it, Edwards wont take this any further.

Got that right.
A vote Whore who stands for everything within his party, in the end stands for nothing.
I used to think Obama was the biggest empty suit in the democrat party. I have change my mind. Under that pretty hair and behind those eyes, there is absolutely nothing.

Hey, just because I’d like to brush Edwards’ hair doesn’t mean I’m gay.

Rob,

This was a perfect opportunity to exercise Bill Whittle’s advice:

I’m as against Trutherism as anybody.  They’re wrong, wrong, wrong.

But I’ve looked at this tape several times, and it’s my sense Edwards is just confused by the question and didn’t know what the fellow was getting at.  I could be wrong, but I don’t think he was pandering to Trutherism.

I think it was an ambiguous exchange, and that his willingness to take down the guy’s information and get back to him was not an endorsement of his views, or of Trutherism generally.

There are plenty of reasons to criticize Edwards, but I don’t think that this is one of them.

LETS REACH OUT TO TRUTHERS!  I bet if a renowned blogger like Ace or Chuck Johnson, who are dispised by truthers and visa versa, made it known to Loose changers that we want to know what democrats think about 9/11 conspiracies, just like they do, they would welcome a joint campaign to pressure politico or whoever to ask the question during the next debate.
