John Edwards Call Your Office…

....because it turns out that the facts about America’s economic climate are devastating for your campaign platform.

It’s been a rough week for John Edwards, and now comes more bad news for his “two Americas” campaign theme. A new study by the Congressional Budget Office says the poor have been getting less poor. On average, CBO found that low-wage households with children had incomes after inflation that were more than one-third higher in 2005 than in 1991.

The CBO results don’t fit the prevailing media stereotype of the U.S. economy as a richer take all affair—which may explain why you haven’t read about them.

Well the media wouldn’t be the media if they weren’t trying to scare us with stories about an impending economic armageddon, among other things.

His cynical assumption is that America is primarily composed of deadbeats who won’t get a job.  He plans to exploit this by offering them bread and circuses like the elitist demogouges of old.  Unfortunately, his initial assumption is wrong and America is mostly composed of hard-working, responsible people.  The American elite is divided into two camps:  Those who use their talents to better themselves and the country (businessmen, military officers, professionals, etc), and those who use their talents to try to manipulate the mob to their advantage (Democratic politicians).

No he was not.
The Bush numbers 2001-2005 are a record of economic regression for most Americans from the Bill years.

economic regression

”one-third higher” income is economic regression ?
So much WOOFian economics!

Not during G-Money’s years

From 2001 to 2004, average family income fell 2.3%, to an inflation-adjusted $70,700 from $72,400 in the 1998-2001 period. By contrast, from 1998 to 2001, average income jumped 17.3%. Median income — the midpoint of the income range — rose 1.6% to $43,200.

well one more hypocrite exposed.  first of all, if john boy were to go to supercuts instead of getting those metro $400 jobs, and speak at campuses for nominal fees instead of charging $35,000, or at least taking the $35,000 and donating it to a few families in the community who actually NEED the money..... you see, he talks about POVERTY.  geez. if he were talking about how to make money and spend it, i wouldn’t have a problem with the guy.  but to arrogantly flaunt his gorgeous $400 hair style, and what he makes for a 45 minute speech when he doesn’t even NEED the money, and talk about POVERTY, well that just gets under my skin.  he’s just a hypocrite.  handsome sucker, but a hypocrite.

Why do you have to be poor to stand up for the poor?

Is it better to be rich and just not give a fuck about the poor?

Hawk on May 23, 2007 at 09:35 am

hawk, one does not have to be poor in order to advocate for the poor. look at all the work bill gates and his wife do for the poor. look at the efforts of james blount and some entertainers, past and present, who gave of themselves along with their money doing benefit concerts, benefit fundraising. whether you agree with their politics or not, they did it for a good cause. why then can’t a politician who is wealthy give a benefit speech to help raise money for the poor, or breast cancer, or multiple sclerosis, or drug addiction, or mental illness, etc.  all i’m saying is, if one has money, that’s fine. but why flaunt it in front of those who don’t? that is very hurtful. unkind. unnecessary. i, and others, would have more respect that person if he behaved in a more charitable way.

i honestly cannot follow your thinking about “is it better to be rich and just not give a damn about the poor?” to me, it means nothing. many wealthy individuals give to charity, and not just to shelter dollars for tax purposes. some give from their hearts because they do care. but honestly, i’ve never seen such compassion and generousity as the time i saw two homeless guys in boston common going through the trash, and they sat down on the park bench and shared their meal.  when one finished first, the other didn’t hide what he had in his pocket; he pulled it out, a half eaten slice of pizza, and gave it to his friend.

What’s this? Another refutation of the “chickenhawk” argument (by inference)? Poor Hawk! The walls continue to crumble!
