John Bolton on Obamarama

Former UN ambassador, John Bolton with some choice remarks on Obama’s Excellent Adventure in the LA Times: One world? Obama’s on a different planet

SEN. BARACK OBAMA said in an interview the day after his Berlin speech that it “allowed me to send a message to the American people that the judgments I have made and the judgments I will make are ones that are going to result in them being safer.”
If that is what the senator thought he was doing, he still has a lot to learn about both foreign policy and the views of the American people. Although well received in the Tiergarten, the Obama speech actually reveals an even more naive view of the world than we had previously been treated to in the United States. In addition, although most of the speech was substantively as content-free as his other campaign pronouncements, when substance did slip in, it was truly radical, from an American perspective.

“Content free”. “Radical”. “…still has a lot to learn about both foreign policy and the views of the American people”*. I’d say Bolton has his number!

…Obama used the Berlin Wall metaphor to describe his foreign policy priorities as president: “The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand. The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down.”
This is a confused, nearly incoherent compilation, to say the least, amalgamating tensions in the Atlantic Alliance with ancient historical conflicts. One hopes even Obama, inexperienced as he is, doesn’t see all these “walls” as essentially the same in size and scope. But beyond the incoherence, there is a deeper problem, namely that “walls” exist not simply because of a lack of understanding about who is on the other side but because there are true differences in values and interests that lead to human conflict. The Berlin Wall itself was not built because of a failure of communication but because of the implacable hostility of communism toward freedom. The wall was a reflection of that reality…

“Confused”. “Nearly incoherent”. Gosh! I wonder if Bolton is angling for reappointment under an Obama administration? Nah! Didn’t think so!

The best we can hope for is that Obama’s rhetoric was simply that, pandering to the audience before him, as politicians so often do.

Ouch.
*I left out “More Naive”.

The man who would be the Black American Messiah has been convinced by his band of worshippers that he is either divinely anointed or by fate called to greatness; and like any actor getting caught up in his part and feeling his appointment with destiny, Lord Obama has seen America as but a very small stage for his enormous person and after the large crowds in Germany, he senses a larger stage awaiting him, a world stage.

Surrounded by host of sycophants, having women pass out at his presence, facing large crowds of adoring fans, Obama has come to truly accept and believe in his role as being greater than mere mortals; and, so he has come to believe it is not substance (there is none) that can save the world, but rather high sounding, compassionate appearing rhetoric of change will move people best. Thus walls that separate nations, races and religious groups too, he believes, will have to succumb to his personal charisma and all the people involved will simply want to change and accept his views because of his extraordinary powers of persuasion, plus the fact he is convinced he is has the right instincts about everything. This is a cult of personality and Obama likes the feeling of being loved and worshipped, he believes the necessary facts will simply fill in later on, supplied by underlings.

I assure you that Obama now cannot conceive of, he could never mentally accept defeat. He has been called, he is answering the call. Sadly, the day he takes office people will begin to wake up to this fantasy, this actor will be exposed as a cheap bit player and that to the harm of the nation. But, until then all the world is a stage for Obama, and while even that stage I’ll bet is already beginning to look quite small to him.

When he spins a lovely story (change), a fantasy, people don’t want any facts to destroy the good feelings they have and not only will they passionately defend the storyteller, they will hate to the point of violence anyone that would destroy that fantasy. Obama comes marching home from Europe as a demi-god for the Left and much of the world and when he and McCain take the stage together, will people want the facts and an honest assessment of where we are and what we need to do to secure a prosperous future by McCain in his less that overwhelming style and physical presence; or, will they prefer the younger, more handsome storyteller in the person of Obama?
